95592 2002-11-03 04:06:00 Just wondering if anyone is in a similar situation.

We got, in the snail mail yesterday, a letter from Actrix:

>Congratulations and welcome! You now have an internet account with Actrix.

Huh? I don't remember signing up. I doubt I ever would either - I don't like their service or their plans.

>Please visit our homepage to help you [blah blah ad nauseum]

Their homepage sucks. Takes half an hour to load, and then bogs my old PC down to no end.

I only went there to get a help support phone number so's I could get my wife on the blower (stuff e-mailing them) and asking where the account came from.

We got told to ring back during office hours, which we will.

In the meantime, has anybody else recieved an internet account with Actrix without asking? And whats the special 2020 dial-up plan? 20 hours for $20? No way I'd want that, I get flat-rate for an extra $2.50 with my exsisting ISP.
If not, who signed me up? I mean, they have my correct postal address, and my name, both of which I am careful not to leave lying around...

And what legal rights do I have? (Question for Geoff Palmer)

And who's butt can I kick for all this??? :D

95593 2002-11-03 04:35:00 are they asking for money? and is the account active? ;-) tweak'e (174)
95594 2002-11-03 05:03:00 Sort of and yes. I don't know how they actually intend billing me, though needless to say that if I do get one in the mail, I'll put 'return to sender' on it.

And yes, the dial-up account is active - they sent me a username and password. I tried it (dialed in -took ages) and hung up once connected. The conection was lousy. :^O

95595 2002-11-03 06:03:00 Maybe someone you know signed you up as a bit of a joke? Baldy (26)
95596 2002-11-03 06:25:00 I'm with Actrix. They don't have a 2020 dial up plan. For $20 you normally get 100 hours (cyberbyte 100 plan) not 20 hours. It sounds all very fishy to me. There is nothing on their home page (www.actrix.co.nz) to indicate a new marketing ploy.

I am normally very pleased with the service I get from Actrix, but if this is the new way they indend to conduct business it is disappointing. Nobody likes this sort of marketing.

Be interesting to hear what they are up to.

95597 2002-11-03 06:35:00 Indeed. Will spill the beans tomorrow. As for somebody signing us up, I have no idea who would. I don't have many friends, and those would know better anyway...

The only thing I can think of is a friend get friend sort of deal, but then again, I already have net access, and everybody knows this, so why?

The letter had "... 2020 Special Dialup rate" so I'm presuming 20 hrs for $20 but otherwise, I couldn't find anything on their site either.

Really...
