95568 2002-11-03 01:35:00 I've been receiving quite a few Klez and BugBear viruses, which Nortons has been detecting and I've then quarantined. When I delete the viruses out of quarantine, instead of deleting it of my system, Nortons is putting them in the Program Files/Norton Antivirus/Quarantine/Portal folder and thus infecting my machine. Ironically then Nortons keeps putting up a message saying it has found the virus, which it put there!
Nortons never used to do this and when I deleted a virus from quarantine it was deleted off my system. Has anyone else had this problem?

An offshoot of this is that now my AVG antivirus keeps displaying the following message:

AVG Resident Shield

Virus
Virus identified I-Worm/Bugbear
Is found in file:
C:\System Volume Information\_restore {E3E6C249-AA1C-40F8-8978-133B69BB63E7}\RP119\A0084692.scr

To remove this virus please run AVG for Windows

But neither AVG nor Nortons nor the online PC-Cillin have detected a virus on my system. I have also run the Bugbear fix utility from Symantec and it says that my system is not infected.

Any ideas on how to stop these annoyances would be appreciated
Thanks

95569 2002-11-03 01:55:00 Try disabling RESTORE. Restart computer, then re-enable RESTORE and then run NAV again. By doing this you will be purging RESTORE of all restore points, and hopefully the infected files.

95570 2002-11-03 04:42:00 For starters uninstall one of your antivirus programs. You should NEVER have more than one antivirus program installed on a PC as they cause conflicts with each other and cause havoc with your system. You may find that this is the cause of the problem. Remove one and try again.

95571 2002-11-03 20:32:00 ALso note that using restore and then running NAV has some problems. You will know when you actually go back in time and run windows again and you will see that NAV is diabled.
I just thought i'd mention it. Even though Sam wasn't suggesting to use restore but to purge it.

95572 2002-11-04 01:03:00 Thanks for the replies. I have purged restore and it seems to have got rid of the AVG virus message.
I have also uninstalled AVG, but I haven't received a virus since so I don't know if Nortons is dealing with quarantine like it used to. I'll let you know.
Thanks again for the help.
