| 95949 | 2002-11-04 21:51:00 | Hi there, I have a couple of questions regarding internet connections. During the day I can use my connection for hours and hours on end without it disconnecting. My problem is that at night (post 7pm when internet traffic is no doubt at it highest) my internet will disconnect constantly. Initially I thought this was my ISP. However I have subsequently used 5 different ISPs (including xtra) and they all have the same problem. Is it possible that the phone lines in my area are simply too small/congested to handle lots of people connecting up at peak-time? Is it worth still trying different ISPs? Could it be something to do with my modem or computer? Finally, is there any software in existence that helps prevent disconnections? I am running Windows98 SE Many thanks Johnny T |

The PCM that Im on has very few users so I hardly get disconnected, however overloaded PCM's seem to suffer from the disconnection problem (in my experience anyway). In other words its a local problem and cant really do that much about it. :_| Not sure whether this helps, but youve my 2c worth anyway. Cheers |

| 95951 | 2002-11-04 22:50:00 | Hi Johnny, I have had this problem ever since being connected to the internet and like everyone blamed my ISP. Whenever my default ISP disconnected several times I switched to my secondary (free) ISP and the problem mostly went away, but recently when the problem occured when trying to send an email (can only send emails through my default ISP), I rebooted the computer (in frustration for somthing to do) and the problem seemed to be fixed. Have recently tried it again when the diconnect problem came up and got the same result. "Think" could be a combination of effects. At least its easy to try. Regards Kelvin |
