95896 2002-11-04 10:28:00 You need to be more specific. What did you lose, (what application were you running) etc. What crashed? Did the PC lock up, did the Hard Drive crash and become terminal? godfather (25)
95897 2002-11-04 10:29:00 wynn_ta,

Can you describe the actual problem you have (are having) in more detail please? What is actually happening, and what it is you want to recover?

Cheers, Babe.

95898 2002-11-04 10:32:00 It depends on what you mean by crash. If XP will not load properly, you can re-install it by booting off your XP CD and following through with an installation. (Don't select the recovery console when prompted - continue on with the installation until you are given the choice to repair or perform a clean install; choose repair). This will replace the XP files but leave your installed programs and data intact (assuming they haven't been damaged by the crash). wuppo (41)
95899 2002-11-04 10:37:00 i don't know what files have been affected by this crash. There's a message"Boot Failure" when i turn on my computer. i currently have windows xp home installed, could i use windows professional cd to boot? i'm worried that i will lose my files.

thank you again

95900 2002-11-04 10:51:00 Boot Failure can signify a Hard Disk failure, but also could be something as simple as a cable dislodged.

Did it fail to boot up, with no prior problems?

Is it a new PC, (under warranty?)

If you have Windows XP home, do you not have the CD that came with the PC?

You could boot on a Windows XP Professional CD but you need to consider that if you have precious data on the Drive, and you are not used to computers, you would be best to get an expert to assist. If you go ahead and try to boot, you could easily destroy the data, if indeed it is recoverable.

95901 2002-11-04 10:59:00 Can you see if your hard disk is identified properly when your computer starts up? Fom the info that is first displayed, you should see a page listing hard disks, CD drives etc (you can press pause to freeze the screen, if you are quick enough). If the setup for the hard disk in the bios has changed (and it can by itself :( the disk may not be recognised, and therefore will result in a boot failure). wuppo (41)
