95860 2002-11-04 08:29:00 Hi,

Lately when I open up my inbox or send a message I get this error:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop3.xtra.co.nz', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I cannot send or receive any messages, and have tried Xtra's test email which does not work. How do I fix this ? I'm sure all settings are correct by following Xtra's instructions. I have also tried their FAQ's but no remedy...

Any help much appreciated....

Cheers....

95862 2002-11-04 08:55:00 This usually indicates you have not connected with your modem.
You can prove this by checking if you can download web sites.

Try connecting with the Dialup shortcut first and establish a connection and then open OE
If you don't have a shortcut on the desktop in Win 98/ME:
Double click Mycomputer and double click Dialup networking
Right click the ISP icon and create shortcut and click Yes
Double click the shortcut on the desktop and connect from this.

If you are using XP:
Start/Connect to/ Select ISP connection
Click on Dial of the connect screen.

If the above works check Internet Explorer settings
Tools/Internet Options
Connection Tab
Make sure your ISP connection has default beside it and you have Always dial my default selected underneath.

95863 2002-11-04 12:38:00 Hi...

JB...

Tried your suggestions (in Win98SE), but still no Outlook connection with Xtra as the default, though dialup works (ie. icon visible in system tray)... It's as if the ports - incoming & outgoing (both 127.0.0.1 in server properties) are physically blocked...

For the website suggestion - can't find the site...

Cheers...

95864 2002-11-04 12:49:00 Hi...

JB...
Fixed the problem...by reseting (ie. entering Pop3... & SMTP... from 127.0.0.1)...Blowed if I know how that number wormed itself into the server settings...

Like your tip on putting dialup on the desktop, I will now keep it there...

Cheers...

95865 2002-11-04 17:29:00 OK . . .

Try this then:-

Error: The Connection to the Server has Failed . Account: 127 . 0 . 0 . 1, Server: 127 . 0 . 0 . 1
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Question
When using Microsoft Outlook Express, I receive Error: The Connection to the Server has Failed . Account: 127 . 0 . 0 . 1, Server: 127 . 0 . 0 . 1, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): no, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E in Microsoft Windows 95/98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP .

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer: Steps to correct Error: The Connection to the Server has Failed . Account: 127 . 0 . 0 . 1, Server: 127 . 0 . 0 . 1 or Error: The Connection to the Server has Failed . Account: postoffice . att . net, Server: mailhost . att . net .

Method 1:

Important: Based on the dialing rules you set up in your connection and the access number you choose, make sure that you check with your local telephone company to verify that you will be dialing a local access number to connect to AT&T Worldnet(R) Service . AT&T Worldnet Service is not responsible for any toll charges, long distance charges, or any other phone charges that you may incur .

If you are connecting to an AT&T Worldnet access number, try using a different local access number .
Attempt to send and receive e-mail messages .
Method 2:

Verify that the settings for your mail account are configured correctly in Microsoft Outlook Express . If you are connecting to an AT&T Worldnet access number, select the link below to add a mail account or verify an existing mail account . If you are not connecting to an AT&T Worldnet access number, select the link below to set up your e-mail program to use Access to Worldnet from Anywhere .
Attempt to send and receive e-mail messages .
Method 3:

Note: This fix applies regardless of whether you are connecting to an AT&T Worldnet Service access number or not .

Run the Microsoft Internet Explorer Repair Tool .
Attempt to send and receive e-mail messages .

95866 2002-11-04 22:49:00 I know you have the problem solved but thought this may be usefull
The 127.0.0.1 you refer to I think is a proxy setup by a virus scan can't remember if it is Nortons or McAffee.
