95823 2002-11-04 07:21:00 Hi y'all,

Just looking a few peoples to go to http://rtmacs.orcon.net.nz for a look-see and see if'n the black menu bar works ok.

would be real good if y'all come back now, ya hear? and post your browser and version if'n it looks weird or wot.

Also feel free to poke the source and let me know what's wrong...

It's doing funny things in Opera... I'm hoping it's an Opera bug cos it works fine in IE (not tested on Netscape or animals)

Why not stick to mainstream browsers - or more specifically, a superior one that excludes IE .

*subtle hint* = Netscape

The first four link words on the bar are run together

HomeSpecials!AntennaPrewiring

the rest are spaced evenly in the remaining space; also the bar extends slightly above the first four words only.

A minor thing is the rectangle in the top lefthand side is slightly darker then other areas of the same colour. I don't know, but could it be possible that this is related to the bar thing?

95828 2002-11-04 08:15:00 Style sheets don't usually work the right way with many browsers as I had found out when designing sites using style sheets. It's sometimes better to just use style tags and write the sheet code between them.

You could try replacing

<LINK REL="stylesheet" HREF="main.css" TYPE="text/css">

with

<STYLE TYPE="text/css">
<!--
@import url(rtmacs.orcon.net.nz);
-->
</STYLE>

in both the frames where you have that other tag.

This may not change a thing with how the site appears but this tag is compatible with IE, NS and Opera and should keep the site the same without changing it's look already.

I just recently removed NS and Opera because I was cleaning up my system so I haven't gotten round to reinstalling them so I can't preview your site in any other browser apart from IE.

Clicking 'home' fills the top frame with 'Welcome to RTMac's web site.' and removes all the buttons etc, all other buttons give me 'The requested URL /XXXXX.htm was not found on this server.' in the bottom frame.

Hope this helps.

95831 2002-11-04 08:37:00 Thankyou peoples.

The menu nesting is the problem, and it looks to be an Opera 6.x problem. CSS is level 1 compliant and HTML is 4.1 standard, so should be fine everywhere...

Thanks again.

(hopes client isn't running Opera 6.x) :D

I don't code for specific browsers - I aim for all my sites to work transparently across all browsers (except Lynx of course) :p
