2002-11-03 22:18:00 | Recently I downloaded Netscape 7 but use internet explorer and outlook express as my default. Now everytime when I send a page or link by email Netscape comes up instead of Outlook. I have gone into internet options and made sure outlook is my default which it is and checked in Netscape that it is not the default and it isn't. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to change it back to outlook. Thanks Caro

2002-11-04 05:05:00 | tools > options > press the little button that says "make default" that lives just by "this is not the default mail handler" .Clueless

2002-11-04 22:31:00 | if the box is grey, the text should read "this application is the default mail handler" In that state any links to email addresses should be handled by outlook. Atleast this is what happens using opera browser/outlook email. I'll just have a look if theres anything in netscape that might overwrite this. In some ways though you are better off, most modern viri are written to exploit weeknesses in outlook, which i also use. Ok i tried netscape now, yes it wants to use its own email client... hmmmm This may serve as a reminder that netscape is now property of AOL who want the web to work thier way. Sorry, unless someone knows a way of forcing the prog to co-operate, this might just be the way it is.. Sorry .Clueless

I don't use Outlook so I can't tell you exactly what to look for and change so hopefully someone else will jump in and fill in the bits I miss. What you need to do is go to Win Explorer, click on View>Folder Options>File Types and look for something like "mail message" or "netscape mail" or something like that with "mail" in it. When you find it, if you click on the name once it will tell you what it opens with then you have to change that to Outlook. This is where someone with Outlook needs to assist so they can tell you what their settings are for you to copy. |

2002-11-05 04:34:00 | Susan, i beg to differ, it would appear that netscape breaks the rules a bit, i have netscape, opera and even IE on my doze box, Netscape sees a mail link, and opens an interanal mail programme, Opera, and IE open mail links by opening an OE mail window. Naughty netscape! .Clueless
