2002-11-04 05:57:00 | Getting back to this whole 'taniwha' issue, after re reading the INL article, and noting the points about the taniwha being responsible for the road accidents; "Maori believe fatal crashes common on the highway are connected to the taniwha of the area..." :O Surely if these vicious 'taniwha' are capable of taking peoples lives by causing road accidents we should be more cautious of them. ?:| Now hers an Idea :D ; why dont we establish a no-fly zone around the area in case the evil 'taniwha' try and attack aeroplanes. Better yet lets have 'taniwha' detectors fitted to all aeroplanes in case the rest of the countries 'taniwha' follow suit and start attaching airborne vehicles :^O :^O :^O, (now if only we knew what they looked like).

2002-11-04 06:44:00 | If the taniwha are going to cause accidents then those who beleive in them should stop, get out of their cars and go live in all the land they have been given in the last 10 years. The rest of us can then live in the 21st century. I reckons those so called experts must be pi%$ing themselves at the trouble they can cause, all on the grounds of 'culture'. They wonder why there is racism in this country. Its not all caused by us 'whities'. | wotz (335) | |
2002-11-04 07:53:00 | Hi... Taniwha to iwi (sub tribe) is a belief unlike many religions for those who believe in them - The name still exists after a very long time, and perhaps some unforseen circumstances could occur near the swamps or river...Say like back in '53 when the the river took out many lives in tangiwhai... Cheers...

2002-11-04 19:41:00 | I bet that a donation of several thousand (more) taxpayer dollars to some Maori group will make this "spirit" miraculously disappear. You watch. (Can you spell scam?)

2002-11-04 19:48:00 | "Taniwhas" to me are just paganisitic mumbo-jumbo. Does this make me culturally insensitive? Yes it does if I fail to debunk mumbo-jumbo in my own culture. Mumbo jumbo like monarchism, Christianity, the class system. When we acknowledge our own twaddle I feel we can point out others. If you dismiss the twaddle in aother culutre you are nothing but a bigot if you cvannot do it to your own as well. MTCW mark :D c
