| 95793 | 2002-11-04 18:43:00 | Hi. We are supposed to be having jetstream installed today, using the phone lines (cat5) to set up the network required. The techie has looked into filters/splitters on the user end (and I presume switch end) and said it should work fine. I will let you know what he does and how it works. | wotz (335) | ||
| 95794 | 2002-11-05 05:18:00 | Watch out with Cat5 cable. I couldn't get my existing cat5 cabled network to work with my new pc (Via PBP4-400 mobo with on-board lan connector). I tried everything I could think of, including installing a pci network card, which worked sweet. My parts supplier said "It's definitely the cable" and lent me a cat5E cable to try, which worked with the on-board lan straight away (this pissed me off immensely I might add!). Apparently the difference between cat5 and cat5E is that the E has a tighter twist! My cable is 13 metres long so I don't know if this would affect it but apparently the new network cards will not work with standard cat 5 cable. Regards, andy PS - Les, did U get that disc yet? |

| 95795 | 2002-11-05 09:16:00 | I would be surprised if the solution was just the difference from cat5 to cat5E.That won't make any difference as Jetstream will max out at 10M anyway,so well within the limit of cat5.Are you sure it wasn't a straight through, or cross over problem? Peter |

I've decided to take the plunge and try Jetstart out. I'm getting an ADSL modem from Trademe for $100. I'll post my results when I got it all going.... or not as the case may be ;) |

New cable works with both, and both pin-out the same! Buggered if I know. Now, if only I can get rid of the driver conflict that keeps crashing (rebooting) the PC in Win XP (98's fine) I'll be really happy! |

| 95799 | 2002-11-08 06:20:00 | Simple! :) Something must be wrong ;) The HPNA cards needed to be connected to the ADSL side of the filter plug and it's working like a dream on 2 PCs. I haven't tried the third PC yet because I need to get another filter for it. But so far I'm very pleased! Thanks for all the help peeps! |
