95746 2002-11-04 04:09:00 I don’t think it is for me or you to say there is/not a ‘taniwha’ in this area – can we say with any certainty their is not? I think we all have to respect all cultures a lot more! Especially one which has played a major part of the founding of this nation .

Regarding the industrial dispute, which is affect hospitals in Auckland; the only thing the government can do under the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act is to direct the District Health Boards to seek arbitration in this/any industrial dispute (which they have) .

It would also be incredibly rash for any minister to embark on such a precedent . No Health Minister in has ever become involved in such matters (industrial disputes) .

Setting such a precedent would simply send a message that DHBs could sit back and wait for a directive from the Minister whenever they couldn’t reach agreement on an industrial issue . (The Employment Relations Act would not allow that anyway)

The only thing the government and the minister can do is monitor the situation and encourage both sides .

Also, concerning the ‘porn issue’ the minister was well within her powers by directing (no pun intended) the Waikato District Health Board not to allow video footage to be shot for commercial pornographic purposes .

There is a clear non-personal aspect to the videoing, involving use of footage for a commercial pornographic film/s .

95747 2002-11-04 04:14:00 I think the hospital should have prohibited it on the grounds that they weren't getting royaltys on the birth for profit scam! Clueless (181)

Arguably you have a point, I await the day that ‘taniwhas’ appear out of thin air and tell us we should stop building roads :D :D

95749 2002-11-04 04:43:00 Mmmm. I think you gentlefolk miss the point. This comes into the same category as escorting frogs or cleansing a new embassy in Bangkok. The Iwi could do LTSA a good turn by holding a ceremony to excorcise the taniwha - say 20 grand. :-) Sami (667)

95751 2002-11-04 05:02:00 No the point is respecting ones culture, as you wound want your culture respected.

How would you feel if a department went willy-nilly and built a road over you relatives’ remains or something, which symbolises your culture and/or believes.

The cleansing of the new embassy may not mean a lot to you, but it does for a huge culture in New Zealand. When a Kiwi is released or born a cultural act or attendance is supplemented.
