96153 2002-11-09 05:39:00 when you "cleaned the head" do you mean you pushed the "clean head" button, or you physicly cleaned the head?

Try this BLOW into the vent(s) at the top of the ink cartridge...

Ink will flow, be prepared to do some mopping up, and best do this outside or somewhere where spilt ink wont be a problem.

If ink doesn't flow, you have real problems, replace the cartridge..

I am assuming that the cannon has the print head at the bottom of the cartridge, if not, then do the same with the cartridge still in the printer. If this doesnt clear it, there isn't much that will.

96155 2002-11-09 07:53:00 I don't want to be responsible if the following causes problems and does not work for you, so please ask around before doing what I did to fix a problem with a dried up ink cartridge .

Mine is a Lexmark 3200 printer, and the print heads are at the bottom of the cartridge . I bought a brand new original colour cartridge, installed it and ink would not flow in a couple of the colours .

The shop said to bring it in and they would fix it . I asked them how and they said they would use hot water to make the ink flow . They said that they often have to do that with new cartridges . I decided to do it myself . They agreed and said they would replace it if it did not work for me .

You put a little hot water in a shallow dish, enough to just immerse the print heads at the bottom of the cartridge . (Fairly hot but not boiling water, and don't go immersing the whole cartridge either) .

Leave it there a short while, then take it out and dab it heads down on a kitchen paper towel . If it works you will see a good sized smudge on the towel for each of the colours . Keep dabbing down on the towel until you see a tiny dot, rather than a smudge, for each colour .

If that worked, then carefully dry off all traces of water and any ink around the print heads . Do that carefully and don't leave any bits of the paper towel behind .

Although mine was a colour cartridge it should work for a black one just as well .

I stress again, don't do the above until you have asked around about the advisability of trying it on your Canon cartridge .

Cheers .

96156 2002-11-09 23:23:00 i have no idea what the print head is and where it is. i got two separate catriges, one color and one black (they are not joined) the two cartriges sit on this detachable cartrige holder which has lots of metal tabs on it and the holder sits on my printer with the color and black cartrige on it(the cartrige holder is detachable aswell. what the hell am i suppose to unblock. the black cartrige or the cartrige holder?

the what ever print head is facing downwards

That's the print head

> and the holder sits on my printer with the color and black cartrige on it

Take it outside with the cartidges still in it, and blow into the vents in the black one..
as said above, if that doesn't clear it, nothing will......
Good Luck!

I just read the post above from exLL with the hot water suggestion
Sounds like that might work as well. So i'll eat my words with the "nothing will" part of my prevoius post.

96159 2002-11-10 01:37:00 I though Canon printers had their ink cartridges separate from the print heads. You can still take out the print heads to do the hot water trick but I'd take out the ink cartridges while doing it. Canon's manual (hard copy or on CD) usually covers the removal of print heads, at least mine do but my printers are quite a bit older.

Cheers
