96299 2002-11-05 19:15:00 I'm a little confused as to what you're trying to do. What's explorer restore? You should have those files already installed with IE6 SP1, you shouldn't need to get them seperately.

If you go to add remove programs, locate internet explorer then click on remove program you are given 3 options 1 add a component 2 restore 3
restore to a previous version.
the 2 files needed reside in windows/system without the updated files it wont restore.

96301 2002-11-06 08:10:00 Nelson,

Both of the files you mention (urlmon.dll and shdocvw.dll) are in the Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 CAB file IE_S1.CAB so you can extract them from there using the EXTRACT utility. (for help on Extract use EXTRACT /? at the command prompt)

If you don't have the IE6 SP1 distribution files then see the PressF1 thread Saving Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 Locally (pressf1.co.nz) on instructions for downloading for your version of OS (note the procedure is generic).

Cheers, Babe.

96305 2002-11-07 01:34:00 Place both files into c:\ folder.
Boot into DOS.
Type copy c:\urlmon.dll c:\windows\system\urlmon.dll /y
Type copy c:\shdocvw.dll c:\windows\system\shdocvw.dll /y
Reboot to Windows.

96306 2002-11-07 01:46:00 One trick to copy files that are in use by Windows is to use System File Checker . Copy the files across from your computer to a known folder on the other computer then use system File Checker to restore them from that folder . The files that are going to be replaced will be backed up to c:\windows\Helpdesk\Sfc

If the computer is then re-booted, the new files will be operative .

The checker can be started by typing sfc . exe in the Start-Run box, else go to Accessories-System Tools-System Information .

The SFC should be run regularly to check for corrupted and/or changed system files as part of regular housekeeping .

The other method is to use a DOS boot disk and use DOS commands to copy over .

Cheers

96307 2002-11-07 09:20:00 Windows ME doesn't use sfc.exe it has its own sfp checker. sfp meaning system file protection built in and you cant boot ME to Dos. Nelson (1675)
