96144 2002-11-05 07:13:00 Ok, the big clue here is when you say "i hardly ever use the printer"

Chances are that the jet has dried up and the printer can't squirt any ink out.
I'm not familair with the exact model of printer, but i expect somewhere in it's menu of tricks you will find a clean heads option. What this basicly does is make it try to print in an appaling waisteful way which clears any dry ink blockages from the print heads.
Failing that, take the black cartridge out and with extreem care clean the heads with some A4 paper or the likes. There may be some delicate circutry, so have a look before you clean it.
All going well this *should* get it working again.
You may have to do the clean heads in the printers menu more than once to get it printing well.

96145 2002-11-05 07:19:00 As mentioned before "clean printhead" or what ever your printers software calls it waistes heaps of ink, this is after all how it works. This is a good time to print any pictures or ink intensive printing, as if you got to use it, you may as well get something out of it as well!

96147 2002-11-07 04:21:00 if the clean head doesnt work, can i keep trying or does it still waste ink with every try TiM©:*) (977)
96148 2002-11-07 06:41:00 If it prints colour, the print head will be OK. Suggest that you buy a new black cartridge. I use a cannon 300 that has seperate B/W & colour. Does yours have the same?

Timmy why don't you explain things a bit clearer.
Is this your black cartridge causing the problem or is that you can't print black from your colour cartridge?

96150 2002-11-07 07:35:00 If it spits balck ink when you use the clean head option then it will eventually come right, if not, then at the base of the black ink cartridge you will hopefully see the black print head (assuming there is seperate colour and black)
Clean this manually, with care as said above, another trick, and this can get really messy, so do it outside... is to blow into the top of the cartridge, which forces ink through, once ink flows though it *should* be OK.

When it does come through it will come out in resonable quantity, so be warned....

After that if it doesn't work...... PANIC!
