| 96611 | 2002-11-06 22:26:00 | I have got a spy ware program on my system I want rid of but cannot delete In a folder called TimeSink/ Adgateway/TSAdBot.exe (Conducent Technology, Inc) Pest patrrol or Adaware will not get rid of it, trying to delete it from the system is denied as it keeps saying disk check disk not full or write protected or in use. | 96614 | 2002-11-06 23:09:00 | try booting up xp in safe mode... hold down control (or f8 i think) after the machine does its POST and before a bar at the bottom of the screen comes up - a windows boot options menu should come up. ask it to start in safe mode - it will take a lot longer than normal to start up, then logon. it should not start up the startup programs, so u should be able to delete that file as it should not be accessed. Another option is to press ctrl+alt+delete, select task manager, then click on processes. the spyware program should be in that list... click on it and then click end process, then click yes to the warning dialog box that comes up. Don't terminate any other process. now bring up the directory that the spyware program is located in.. you should now be able to delete the file. unfortunately i don't know how to edit the startup list in xp... maybe someone else can fill you in on removing it from the startup list.
