96698 2002-11-09 20:37:00 Thanks Heather. But I think that with Xtra I only have one login name and up to 4 alias' which can only download to the one mailbox. I have limited understanding of email servers, but what I envisaged was that my PC could download all mail and then distribute it to the others. I thought that it would be quite simple for software to re-route mail using the recipient name.

I could, of course, sign up for a seperate email account with xtra for each of us, but it seemed logical to try to utilise the alias' which I get for free.

96699 2002-11-09 21:34:00 Alias email addresses are not suitable for your situation.

You will need to get Xtra to add mailboxes to your account.
Xtra seem a bit tight with extra mailboxes -
A hosted mailbox has a setup fee of $24.84 + GST ($27.95 Inc GST), and
an ongoing cost of $2.50 (ex. GST) per month.

Most ISP's will give 5 real email addresses with some accounts and don't charge when you want one set up.

96700 2002-11-10 02:16:00 Lansuite602 wortked for me. It would collect the mail from as many pop addresses as I liked and then, when the individual email clients were fired up they would get the mail from my server. Plus it could run all the mail through AVG [antivirus] so that my Lan would be free from the nasties.
the Ihug Tucows mirror has lansuite for download.
Unfortunately I haven't had the server running for a month or so and so the individual PC's have been collecting their own mail [I forgot to setup AV] and now I have a problem with Nimbus A & E [3322 infected files on one machine] my own fault :O
Bother bother bother bother bother X 3322

96701 2002-11-11 20:38:00 Thanks all. I'm going to give lansuite a go. I definately won't be paying Xtra $24.95 plus a monthly fee (times 2) for the convenience of collecting my email in a more convenient way. crozier (2004)
