96615 2002-11-06 21:48:00 Hi,
With free install finally available by telecom i was wondering if it was possible to get some gadget like what telecom does, so that you don't require filters at ever jack?

If not, HOW do you get 1 filter to work for all jacks, i think that you have one filter hooked up to the main jack and a seperate cable run down to the computer not hooked up to the filter? correct me if i'm wrong. I would be capable to wiring up things, i just don't know how, any one know of any good sites? or would be able to tell me?

Thanks a heap

96616 2002-11-06 22:00:00 Depends how your house wiring is run.

In my case, I wired it so that the incoming circuit terminates at a socket near the computer. At this point, there are NO OTHER connections to the incoming circuit. I use a single plug-in filter there, to feed the rest of the installation which also terminates at a socket there, and tap-off before the filter for ADSL.

96617 2002-11-07 09:06:00 Hi Dave, the way the Telecom filters work is that there are 2 pairs of wires coming out of the filter. One set is connected to the outside line where it comes in the the house, the other pair goes to all the other phones in the house. This way the adsl goes th o the jack where the PC is,but is blocked from going to the rest of the phones.Dick Smith have filters of that sort, apparently(have a look at their site)but not quite the same as the ones we use at Telecom

96618 2002-11-07 18:53:00 Hi,
I've seen the Dlink DSL-10SP
www.dlink.co.nz
I think it works by running the main line through it and then running out the normal phone line as normal and sending a seperate line down to the computer. Its about $50 i think, but heaps easier than filters

96619 2002-11-07 20:00:00 Yes, thats exactly (10 SP) what Peter was saying. Effectively what I am doing as well, but I do it using a $20 Nokia in-line filter godfather (25)
