96518 2002-11-06 07:20:00 Press F1 appears to be set up to forget my user name saved on my computer after a few weeks of not using it, so that I have to log in again. This time I was lucky. I managed to find the information on the hard drive in my head. But last time it happened I forgot and had the inconvenience of going through the rejoining procedure again. Question is - Why doesn't F1 let the computer store the information indefinitely? ssssss (2100)
96519 2002-11-06 07:23:00 I have a feeling it's got nothing to do with Press F1, but your own settings, or perhaps something deleting the cookies on your computer. The automatic login for PressF1 is stored in a cookie on your Hard drive, not on the F1 servers.

96522 2002-11-06 07:32:00 No. I don't knowingly delete my cookies. But it has now happened twice. ssssss (2100)
96523 2002-11-06 07:44:00 You, or someone else might have set your computer with "System Maintenance" enabled.

Have a look in Start > Programs > System Tools . System Maintenance.

96524 2002-11-06 09:21:00 Or the cookies got purged because you hadn't been to the site for so long roofus (483)
96525 2002-11-06 09:32:00 Have just come back to Press F1 and found that my system had again forgotten my username after only about half an hour.
I can't find system maintenance as such on my Windows ME computer.
However this problem is not major, so thanks for your advice.

96526 2002-11-06 10:22:00 There are glitches, but as long as your email address as provided when you signed up or last updated profile is real, the "forgotten yer password " thingy wotsit, will work.

a practical solution??
come back lots! :p

96527 2002-11-06 20:13:00 It's nothing to do with Pressf1. The way PressF1 remembers your name and password (if you use the auto login feature) is by putting a cookie on your hard drive that contains that info, and thus identifies you to the system when you visit the page. Without that cookie being there, you must login if you want to identify yourself to PressF1 and thus retrieve all your personal settings for PressF1.

But it has no control over what you do with your cookies - you may have purged them intentionally, unintentionally, or have changed your browser settings so that they cannot be stored on your PC (for security reasons). We can't control that, and I'm sure no one would want us to of we could!
