97066 2002-11-08 00:10:00 Im looking for everybodies best deals that they can find. Prefferably in Auckland though, but Im geared up and ready to make a new PC that's going to be doing DVD Playback (Going to the telly), and also to be used as a Jukebox system for all the music I've got stored.

I'm wanting to know the best pricing for everything needed. I've checked pricespy, but I know that I can personally better the products there (Like RAM and DVD-ROM Drive).

This is what I'm hoping to have at the end of it all:
Case with 250Watt + Power Supply (Full-Sized Tower Case).
Motherboard with AGP 4x (Dont need to go 8x) and Pref SD-RAM (Coz I can get it REAL cheap)
NIC
Sound Card (doesnt really need to be surround, its not gonna be using its own speakers
DVD-ROM
CD-RW (just a budget one)
HDD (30GB Upwards)
AGP Graphics card (I have a 16MB card, but I'm not too sure if It'll go to the TV or if it'll cut playing DVD's) so just a cheap (Price) one, that'll do TV out and even TV-In too!

I know you're probably gonna say check pricespy, but I have and I know that there are cheaper deals out there, i've found 256MB SD-RAM for about $40 and a 300Watt Full Tower case for about $60.

Itd be great if y'all could help me out with this one.

Thanks in advance

97068 2002-11-08 00:42:00 If in Auckland check out the Thursday Trade and Exchange. They have a good computer section, mainly new stuff - just about everything - but also used if you want it. Prices generally better than pricespy and range of selection is far wider.
Mainly shops advertising that are run by Chinese, they tend to give you a fair deal and keen prices.
Oh the wonders of competition, now if only we could do the same with Telecom and Microsoft ...

97069 2002-11-08 00:46:00 We got one of these Gigabyte G-Max barebones (www.awcl.co.nz) machines in today.. and they look quote smooth if you can get a good price on them..

"MicroATX Case with 250W Power Supply for AMD Athlon / Athlon XP / Duron Socket A processors.
GA-7VKML Motherboard installed.
Onboard Video, Sound and LAN.
ATA-133 and AGP port are on motherboard as well.
16x DVD-ROM and 1.44MB 3.5" FDD installed.
Front Multi-IO Link: USB Hub port, 1394 Firewire port and PCMCIA Type II Interface.
Rear 1394(6pin) Firewire port.
External drive bays: 5.25" x2, 3.5" x1.
Internal drive bays: 3.5" x2.
Dimension: 405(D) x 180(W) x 352(H) mm.
Plus: Optical scroll wheel mouse included."

Just add HDD, Ram and CPU. And the case has a cool little slidey thing on the front for the USB ports. :D

I'm such a consumer.

97072 2002-11-08 01:41:00 I'm budgeting about $800 roughly all up, I know its possible. I can get things for aroun 900 at the moment, but Im sure it can go cheaper! I dont mind even if its the Duron CPU/Motherboard. That can be upgraded later when more money comes in.

I've got Keyboard/Mouse too, just for the record!

97073 2002-11-08 01:45:00 CPU HDD and RAM... That's around another 200-300 maybe?!

C'mon, I know there's better pricing out there. I'm fully confident in making it myself, I've had experience doing it for two friend on seperate occasions, only I was only hired to put it together, they bought the parts that were specific to their needs, but payed a lot coz they simply went to DSE and somewhere else to get the bits. I reakon they payed about $1K more than need be for their P4 system (1.6Ghz with 128MB RAM). They payed about 2.5K I believe. I'm aiming for $850.

Lets say that I get RAM for $40 (256MB SD-RAM)
Case and power supply is about $65 locally.
DVD-ROM is about $115 for a 16x
CD-RW is about $105 for a 42x10x48

What else is there for around 500 all up?!

Thanks guys
