97001 2002-11-07 22:29:00 I’m running Win 98 SE on a new AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1800+ 1.5 GHz
RAM 256 MB
I have two programs that seem to be very hungry on system resources, one of them about 42% and the other about 44%. If both are running together the recourses get to a critical low state and I have to shut down one to keep the PC working.
On shut down ether of these, they don’t seem to relinquish all the recourses to the amount prier to opening the program. The only way to restore the recourses is to do a cold re boot.
Is there any software that can manage the system resources, rather than having to re boot the PC to get things back to normal?
I’m running the resourse meter and this is showing me the drain on the recourses when I open the offending software.

Maybe one of the 'free up RAM resources' type utilities may help you have a look Here (www.zdnetindia.com)

97003 2002-11-07 23:42:00 Come on Babe you know that Ram, and resources are two completely different things.
Those free memmory things wont help you out.
Either update the software or lump it. There isn't too much that can be done about dirty ol system resources. Or you could get winXP. its not restricted to the same sort of resources Win9x has.
refer to the Ram Clutter FAQ (which isn't in the FAQ section yet) if you want info on RAM space, but as i say this is different to resources.

97004 2002-11-08 00:06:00 yeah Roofus of course you're right... I was looking for that RAM clutter/resources FAQ but couldnt find it at the time. Sorry about that. I guess I should've pointed to a web page like this System_Resources_Win9x (www.howstuffworks.com)

97005 2002-11-08 00:21:00 What exactly is this "dirty software" if you dont mind my asking?

How much Virtual RAM have you got configured and how is it setup (Specified by you or windows managed?)

97006 2002-11-08 00:39:00 Dirty software doesnt release resource heaps after it terminates

Also titles like "Bimbo does Dallas XXXX v1.3" is likely to be dirty software of another type...

97007 2002-11-08 04:12:00 Or zoomplayer 2.8 that thing was using 30% resources. I couldn't believe it roofus (483)
