96943 2002-11-10 03:11:00 Danger, no I don't have IE 6 - I use 5.5. I've sent it to you to see if it works or not, let's hope it does. :-)

Sal, check your email too.

96944 2002-11-10 13:03:00 If web designers would only code to the standards it wouldn't matter what browser was used. mikebartnz (21)
96945 2002-11-10 13:08:00 Mike what version of NS are you talking about because NS7 is more standards compliant than IE. The older ones were a different story just as older IE versions are a different story. Once again code strictly to the standards. mikebartnz (21)

That's the point, mikebartnz, I made a fully compliant webpage, and it would not display correctly in Netscape - both NS 6.2 and NS 7. It displays, just not exactly how it should.

And after seeing those figures, I've given up bothering to even test my sites on anything other than IE - I still run them through a validator, so the code is correct, but if only 5% of people viewing the site has problems displaying it, then I'm happy with that.

Mike.

96947 2002-11-10 20:19:00 That feature's built into Netscape. Greg S (201)
96948 2002-11-10 20:24:00 The information that I have is that some website features are impossible to be viewed correctly in all browsers, no matter how thoroughly you follow the Standards. Blame MS. But the more site creators cater to the less mainstream browsers, the less MS's hold will be over Net standards, which has gotta be good thing. Greg S (201)
96949 2002-11-10 21:03:00 Well, As Mike's said:
The page is coded correctly
Therefore, THE BROWSER IS NOT!
If it's interpreting correctly coded pages wrongly, then its the fault of the browser, not the site designer!

96950 2002-11-10 21:17:00 Yeah, that was really my point - that some code will never be recognised correctly by all browsers. The way round it of course is to script the intro page to direct the visitor to an alternative version of the page, designed specificaly for their browser version. This works 99% of the time unless, like me, a visitor has it's firewall config'd to hide the info. Greg S (201)

Oops ... has THEIR firewall...
