96922 2002-11-08 11:41:00 Netscape - it's simply the best Greg S (201)
96923 2002-11-08 12:26:00 i dont want to say it but, ie6 ?:|

mainly cos it loads a lot quicker than the rest (i know its because its so tightly integrated with windows, but i dont really want to run the 'quick launch for *browser here*' on startup), plus it supports most things i create in css, etc (even though opera apparently supports alot more stuff than all other browsers)

96924 2002-11-08 20:36:00 soni found another bug in Opera, but didn't someone mentiont that there has only ever been 1 bug with Opera. Must be the same bug eh. roofus (483)
96925 2002-11-08 20:50:00 well your site displayed ok for me.

if you are meaning the titles in the tables in the top frame that was to close to gether, i had simaler problem with mine. different browsers locate inside tables slightly differently from each other. eg netscape displays it differently than IE. not to sure why(yet).

96926 2002-11-08 23:36:00 Yep Tweak'e thats the one. But what can you do eh? :)

as for IE loading faster - bollocks. It's the prime reason I use Opera. And yes, I run a PI266 on 32mb ram, so its pretty critical.

96927 2002-11-08 23:41:00 Samba... Only that's a minority (Competitor) writing code so that it (As a competitor) can exist (Alongside a monopoly).

What about simply changing the text size in IE, it screws page layouts right up, a real pain to try and code for.

This world needs a 'REAL' standard that can be followed, such as perhaps XML. Something that is set by an independant or opensource project and made a standard, only to be improved by that independant/opensource party. Its a long shot, but it'd mean more freedom for lower end competitors in the market.

Basically, there needs to be a central location that sets standards, and develops them, or incorporates any developments submitted to them.

Something like that anyways, but MS would never bow down to anything like that, so for now, I'm just gonna stick with using IE 6 and (When I get back around to doing it... life's pretty busy @ the moment) making pages that work on the majority browser.

If I have to choose, work on one browser or another, I'd go with the majority. Although there'd be 5% or 30 million people who couldnt read/see my site, if I coded for the minority, there'd be 95% or 570 Millino who couldnt see it.

Sometimes its best to go with the crowd.

My 2cents anyways

96928 2002-11-08 23:47:00 What OS SiK?
I have a laptop running Win2K with only 48 MB RAM (Its 120Mhz), and It just wouldnt handle Opera.. Dunno why, even increasing the proccess priority, it was just so much slower. I went back to IE 6 coz Its more intergrated, so I was multitasking with WinAmp 2.8, Lotus Notes 5, MSN Messenger 4.6 and 2 Browser Windows, and it was peachy. Not with Opera though. It was ONLY opera open or nothing.

This is obviously not the was with all PC's, coz I've tried it on my 933mhz celeron and its faster, but I just like IE, feels like home :)

96929 2002-11-09 00:06:00 gee running ANY other program on a p120 with w2k is going to be problematic to say the least. exspecially opera with its ram cache.
thats what happens when you run late model OS's on old underpowered pc's. kinda like shoving big block V8 into a mini.....its just begging for problems.

as far as web pages go its not really such a problem with standards, its getting everyone to comply to them. companies try to force they idea of how a browser should work, web site makers who want to use all the fancy stuff that only one browser has.

hopefully that may change if mozilla type browsers and opera get more popular.

96930 2002-11-09 00:13:00 Well, MS, being the clever cookies that they are, have created their own standard. I dont know too much about the .NET Framework yet, but I have the beta sever install on a 200Mhz with 128MB RAM and its whipping the heck out of out 933Mhz with 256MB RAM! Its fast all round in my experience. looks good, and a good idea creating your own standard. Chilling_Silence (9)
96931 2002-11-09 00:36:00 Tweak'e your right about that - I had a Chev V8 in a KE70 Corolla - no room left to put the stereo in! It's true! (the roll cage took any space leftover)

I'm running 98SE on this b!t(hbox (which is nearly dead)

I'm not even sure that all 32mb (shared) is working properly.

(with a need for speed, even with a PC! :D )
