theres absolutly no need to intergrate anything into the OS. its just a marketing tactic so MS can be No1.

96903 2002-11-08 03:59:00 MS have had a history of "improving" standards, so that those who comply with standards are disadvantaged.

That is a good enough reason to be bothered to do things so they comply with the actual standards.

I don't believe that any monopoly can be trusted.

Writing code so that cometitors can exist is a Good Idea.

No there isn't a need to integrate, But it does make things a lot more efficient and effective. I can be browsing my hard-drive, then i decide to goto a page, so in just type in the file location the url and whooo i'm away, No worries about having to load up another application.

As for the security updates, yes there are a lot of them. But as most people realise they really aren't critical updates. Most things they find havn't even been used by hackers they are just covering their bases.

96905 2002-11-08 04:34:00 My favourite browser is Mozilla and more recently Phoenix. Opera isn't too bad either.

Once they get around to building in a application close, confirmation or I end up modifying the source to. I'll always use Mozilla or Phoenix apart from at sites that aren't designed for it.

At the moment the browser I use the most is [url=http://www.crazybrowser.com[Crazy Browser[/url] which is a front-end for IE that allows tabbed viewing, and has a close application confirmation.

The only reason for sites not to display properly in all browsers is not meeting the standards (webcode, or browser).

2. Its small.
3.Since I've used it (a couple of years) there has been only one bug that I know of.
4 even if there's more, it's not a target of hackers.
5 Its fast
6 Email is simple(plain text) and seems relitivley safe.
7 Is it me?? or do the sites that don't co-operate with Opera seem to have a particular slant ( monolithick, OS biased, all bells and whistles, and others content etc etc)???
8 hey! You have to support the little guy don't you.

96907 2002-11-08 08:24:00 Microsoft is like Netscape and is like Opera.
They all are businesses. All reaching one goal .... thru its many theory marketing, mgmt, psychology etc etc.... getting the customers relationship, loyalty, repurchase. think of the msn and hotmail community. if its arn't hotmail its not email. that kinda thing. we only chat on msn. even msn passport is on ebay now.

Airline loyalty programmes, ms school funds etc.... if any of us were a business we will all do same type of tactics. u either grow or fail or be taken over.
Everybody have opinions but u need to place them aside when analysing them. apple to apple. each one have -ve, and +ve's.

96909 2002-11-08 08:36:00 thats right! no need to be integrated.

why does win95B need IE. why does office2k need it.
does one version make such a difference.

96911 2002-11-08 09:09:00 If 5% of internet users are not using IE than this is something like 30 million people.
I don't consider this can be called time wasting to cater for this number of users,

Any web designer who does not cater for this number of people is either stupid or arrogant.
