96990 2002-11-07 19:48:00 In Win 9x and ME there was a Windows Telnet client. However I can't seem to find one in Windows XP. All I came across is a DOS based Telnet terminal, which doesn't have any of the extra menu settings that would be found in the Windows Telnet client of 9x/ME.

Does anyone know if there actually is a Win Telnet client in XP, and what it's called?

Thanks

Mike.

96991 2002-11-07 20:38:00 Heh, there isn't any dos in XP. I believe that NT4 was the last NT-based OS to have a GUI telnet client.

Use something like http://ctelnet.chat.ru/ or
www.chiark.greenend.org.uk (which does ssh as well).

If you're going to get into pedantics, I'd have to say you're wrong :) Every Windows is DOS, Linux is DOS, hell, even OSX is DOS.

How stupid.

96997 2002-11-08 03:51:00 No, Mike . DOS is a copy of CP/M, which was loosely based on bits copied out of Unix, OS/8, RT11 . . .

I believe the most modern Windows don't have real DOS as their base . That doesn't mean they're necessarily any better . ]:)

96998 2002-11-08 04:26:00 I thought DOS = Dodgy/Dirty Operating System so I'd say most OSs are DOS.;) :D

.... and PuTTY is the best. We use it to connect to the server at school and gain FTP access outside.

Graham, I believe that DOS = Disk Operating System, therefore they should all be a DOS, as they are all disk operating systems :D - just to be pedantic about it LOL
