| 96873 | 2002-11-07 11:43:00 | I have been trying to set up my ibook to access high speed internet via my pc from Ihug satellite. In our area the techie helping me do this has set up several schoolnetworks to do just this where there are networks with some pcs and some Macs. The OS in those setups was MS 2000 which has a facility to talk to Apples. I have win98 which is not equiped with this ability. Is it possible to add this onto win98. Would I be better to upgrade to Win 2000? A Mac techie has said we need a software router to take the output from the satellite card and send it on to the Mac in aform that it recognises. I have been unable to find suitable software so far...any suggestions? regards Malcom Collier |

Of course macs recognise TCP/IP as well or else they couldn't be used on the internet ;) The only thing you should have to do is setup the PC to behave as a gateway a.k.a. internet connection sharing. Then you configure the mac using the tcp/ip control panel (I'm assuming os 9 or below here) to use the ip address of the PC as a gateway and possibly as a DNS server (or just use the DND ip addresses of your ISP). Software like Winroute Pro or Internet Connection Sharing for Win98SE should do the trick assuming that they can cope with the fact that your connection to the internet is ihug satellite based. |
