96732 2002-11-07 05:34:00 Normally on 'shut down' it would go 'saving settings' - 'windows is closing' then - 'its now safe to turn off'
Recently it gets as far as 'windows is closing' and no further. Turning off the computer at that stage does not incur a dialog box saying 'your computer has suffered...........' when I restart.
I've tried 'Enable power management' on Screen saver.
Can anyone help please.
Joseph.

96733 2002-11-07 06:48:00 Shut down in XP is a known bug... what you must do is install SP1... that should take care of it!

Lo.

96735 2002-11-08 01:45:00 I had this same problem. It is the WinLogon.exe file and has been fixed as mentioned in sp1.

I disabled my password (as I the only user of my machine) and it shuts down fine. I cant install SP1 on my early version of XP Pro.

96736 2002-11-08 04:42:00 Or you could have a look at http://support.microsoft.com and search for Q307274

That should help.
Cheers.

96737 2002-11-09 07:03:00 Hi Steve
Would you be kind enough to e-mail me a copy of SP1, so that I can close my XP pro: with dignity.
I seem to have tried everything else suggested.
I recently converted C/ from basic to dynamic and FAT32 to NTFS which may have upset things.
Cheers Joseph.

96741 2002-11-27 08:47:00 To those people posting e-mail addresses here, please be aware it's not a good idea.

Public forums get "harvested" by robot applications collecting e-mail addresses for spam merchants. There is nothing the hosts can do to stop it, its unfortunately a fact of life.

If you start receiving masses of unwanted / objectionable mail, you will know how it came about!
