97153 2002-11-08 03:36:00 What processor speed do you intend throwing into it?
DDR memory?

More detail required..

97154 2002-11-08 05:26:00 Why not start here :-

www.computerdirect.co.nz

and record a configuration, any configuration, and post that configuration back here for people to help you tune both in specification AND in price per performance ..

Just an idea

97155 2002-11-08 07:20:00 Hi mark,
OI i told u to go for that asus board at school, lol why don't u listen to me? even if it is a bit more expensive than others cos its from taiwan. It was in pcworld a few months ago i believe anyways, once i get the damn link up (stupid 56k modem)

www.asus.com.tw

not very powerful only supporting upto 1.4ghz, but an athlon would sit sweat in there, otherwise i reckon you should really consider getting ddr cos the mobos are so much faster from asus anyways....

p.s heres some info for it
The ASUS A7A266-E is a Socket A DDR motherboard based on the ALi® M1647 chipset. In addition to significantly enhancing system performance with support of the latest UltraDMA/133/100, DDR DRAM, the ASUS A7A266-E offers flexibility by also supporting PC133 SDRAM. AMD® Athlon XP / Athlon / Duron processors of 500MHz up to 1.4GHz+ will benefit from the optimal performance delivered by this ATX motherboard, and you'll effortlessly power through today's most demanding applications like never before

97156 2002-11-08 09:11:00 I usually use Soltek, Gigabyte and Asus....

Never had to replace the motherboard on any of those brands.

97157 2002-11-08 10:01:00 Dude go for Gigabyte. They are the best!!!
Whatever others may say for Asus, i recommend Gigabyte.
Asus is more pricey cause of its brand, but Gigabyte is just as good or even better with more reasonable price.

I got a old LX440 chipset based Gigabyte mb with celeron 333 and its still rock solid after 4yrs!

Though it seems you want to use SDRAM so you will have to go for a bit older model that supports it. And those ones either dont have AGP slots or have only 3 PCI's. Check out the Gigabyte (http://www.giga-byte.com) website

97158 2002-11-10 07:10:00 hey

what speed athlon are you going to use in this build? if its anything fast than the 1.3Ghz t-bird then i would strongly reconmend making the jump to DDR-RAM or atleast use the motherboard your friend reckonemended. If you use SD-RAM you wont experience the full power of the Athlon.

But if you really want SD-RAM then check out the Soltek SL-75KAV damm good board i have personally used it and its stable and have never had any problems. It uses the VIA KT-133A chipset and has all the features you wanted.

Check it out here (www.soltek.de)

I think <a href="www.oemcomputers.co.nz>OEM Computers< and Manakau has it for $189 inc. GST (that is if you live in Auckland)
