97665 2002-11-11 00:42:00 g'day
i have three hdd partitions, one with 98se, one with xp pro, and the other with nothing on it.
if i install win 2000 pro on the third hdd partition, which will uninstall xp, and then install xp on the second again, will it allow it as three operating systems as a tri-boot machine? What are the requirements for having a tri-boot system?

97666 2002-11-11 00:49:00 Im not too sure if I understand you right coz you shouldnt need to un-install WinXP.

You should just be able to boot to XP, insert the Win2K CD and then in theory it will just add Win2K to the boot loader.

97667 2002-11-11 01:03:00 are you sure? Normally if you try to install, for example, 98 after youve installed xp earlier, it deletes xp and replaces it with 98 thats why you have to install the earliest versions first (like 98) and THEN the later versions (like XP) so it doesnt delete the other OS.

hey i forgot to ask why wasnt there a windows 1 or 2? it seemed to start straight with 3.1 or whatever i think im not too sure im only 15 so i was only a little fulla when 3.1 was released!

97668 2002-11-11 01:13:00 there was win 1 and 2.... crap lost my links.... errrrrrrrr, sorry... loser (538)
97669 2002-11-11 01:25:00 Both XP and 2K have boot loaders though, and are fimiliar with Dual-Booting, whereas 95,98 and ME do not seem to be as fluent with Multi-Booting. XOSL is the name of a third party boot loader which is supposed to be good. Chilling_Silence (9)
97670 2002-11-11 06:01:00 I have a tri boot system . nosweat to setup. Somewhere in the install windows of the W2K install you can choose to install on a seperate partition. I just can't give you thwe details. However it all works sweet. future (1979)

There was most definitely a Windows 1 and 2, and a 3 before 3.1 came along (and then 3.11) before Windows 95. I think I've got them lying around the place somewhere :)

97673 2002-11-12 03:54:00 I'm using Tri Boot at the mo for work purposes, I have XP, 2K and ME.

Always install the earliest OS 1st .. is your case. Install 98 1st into it's own partition, then install 2K into it's own partition and finally install XP into it's own partition and XP's boot loader will takecare the rest

:D cheers
