97609 2002-11-10 22:23:00 Any suggestions please.
When I press shutdown to close windows, it gets to the message
(Win is shutting down) then reboots by itself.
Any suggestions please.

97610 2002-11-10 22:28:00 How long has it done this?
I think it may have something to do with Advanced Power Management (APM).

Check by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting properties
Click the Screen Saver Tab.
Click on Power down the bottom right
Check to see if there is a Tab on the new window labelled APM.
What are the settings in there?

Cheers

97611 2002-11-10 22:35:00 Hi C_S,
I have only got a settings button there, the screen is timed to close after 1 hour and the h/drive after 2 hours.

97612 2002-11-10 22:53:00 The only other thing that I can think of is that you download a ShutDown patch.

Goto:
http://www.windowsupdate.com
there should be a shutdown patch for 98, it should be less than 1 Meg, but get all that are related to shutdowns.

Get back to me if you're still having troubles.

Cheers

97613 2002-11-11 09:11:00 After pressing Start, Shut Down. Make sure that Shut Down is selected in the box that comes up, and not Restart. scouser (2211)
97614 2002-11-21 06:05:00 Hi C.S.
Thank's for the suggestion on the PC not shutting down and restarting by itself, I have been out of town for a while.
Anyway on reflection the only thing I had added was the Nortons suite of PC care, (not the Anti Virus though) I removed it from the PC and hey presto the computer shuts down, still no message safe to turn off, but I have never had that luxury anyway.
Thanks again
Pibs

PS new problem will put it on the forum for general interest.
