97514 2002-11-10 05:24:00 We have just joined Slingshot. We have just bought our first computer. We have set up 6 e-mail accounts. Now, I don't know how we can read our e-mails or send them! We are running Office 2000 and Windows XP. All help is appreciated BernieL (1913)
97515 2002-11-10 05:31:00 If you run Outlook (part of Microsoft Office), it should prompt you the first time to enter all your details (pop3 account, smtp account settings)

These will likely be available on the Slingshot website as well.

You could also run Outlook Express, its a different package to Outlook, but I personally would prefer Outlook.

When its set up, send yourself an e-mail, to test it

97516 2002-11-10 06:31:00 Thank you. I'm afraid my wife may have already tried and that's become part of the problem! BernieL (1913)
97517 2002-11-10 06:54:00 Why? What have you done so far that hasn't worked?

97518 2002-11-10 06:56:00 I take it back - she has had a crack at Outlook express (and it didn't work). What service do I want - there are two options. I'm stuck and I'm only on page 1 of the wizard! BernieL (1913)
97519 2002-11-10 06:58:00 Do you mean whether to use Outlook or Outlook Express options? Either would be fine. Do you have the configuration settings for Slingshot?

Configuration Settings

POP3 (Incoming mail) pop3.slingshot.co.nz
SMTP (Outgoing mail) smtp.slingshot.co.nz
NNTP (news server) news.slingshot.co.nz

97520 2002-11-10 07:12:00 As possibly none of us can easily duplicate your versions of software, maybe you could tell us the options you are faced with. Then we could advise. godfather (25)
97521 2002-11-10 07:15:00 Thanks for persevering! Here are the parts I have come across that have me flummoxed:
Which of or both - Microsoft exchange server/Internet e-mail (page 1 of wizard)
User info - e-mail address and reply address; is one of these our master at slingshot?
Incoming mail server account name (page 2.)
Thanks.

If you are a home user, and not on a Corporate Network, you don't want (or have) exchange server. Take the remaining choice?.

If you want your e-mail address to be the one people reply to, they are the same and its your e-mail address. You CAN have different ones but you probably dont need to

> Incoming mail server account name (page 2.)
pop3.slingshot.co.nz

outgoing mail server smtp.slingshot.co.nz

Now a caveat, I have not set up any slingshot accounts, so all care no responsibility! (it just won't work if its wrong!)

97523 2002-11-10 07:41:00 I'm following your help. I then tried to send myself an e-mail but got a note giving the slingshot address as pop3.slingshot.co.nz and asking for a password to the server. Is this something I now need to get on to slingshot about or shouldn't I have pushed the send/receive button? BernieL (1913)
