97625 2002-11-11 09:03:00 You may well be right C_S.

I put together a playlist of 50 mp3's all of which played without missing a note.

Now I'll try 50 .wma's and see what happens?

I wonder if the problem is swapping from one format to another?

I'll keep you informed. A bit time consuming listening to 50 recordings :D

97626 2002-11-14 23:21:00 Update on this one.

I’m really only guessing but it does look like this old computer can’t handle successive .wma files. No problem with mp3’s.

So, I’m now faced with converting 200 odd .wma files to mp3’s.

Any recommendations on this one? GoldWave hasn’t heard of .wma files, (as far as I can tell) and Win Media Player 7.1 will only save in .wma format.

Bummer, what do the experts recommend?

97627 2002-11-14 23:29:00 have you tried increasing the buffer size in WMP? I know you can do that in WinAmp, or increase the proccess thread priority. Chilling_Silence (9)
97628 2002-11-15 07:37:00 Sorry C-S, can't find any way of making those adjustments with mp7.1

Felt sure there would be a way to convert .wma files to mp3.

Looks like I'm another one caught in the Microsoft net.

97629 2002-11-15 07:56:00 Hi..

I use dbPowerPower AMP Music converter and it's downloaded codecs (or plugin - free) for converting WMA's to MP3's if not copyrighted WMA's...

97630 2002-11-15 08:11:00 Thanks Kawahai,

DbPowerPower sounds more like a fine ale than a file converter.

Used to partake of a drop of Powers in Aus. many years ago.

As for DB, well that to.

I'll check the net and let you know how I get on.

All the files are off genuine purchased CD'S

97631 2002-11-15 08:19:00 Hi...

And like a fine ale - dbPower Amp was hard to find...Hunted and Hunted...

Cheers...

97632 2002-11-16 07:33:00 Yikes! What’s happening?

I’ve downloaded dbpowerAmp but can’t get it to convert any of the .wma files compiled by Win MediaPlayer 7.1?

So, I try to take them straight off the CD with a little more success, however, there are 20 tracks on the CD and the HD & CD-ROM have been spinning flat out for 2 ½ hours and we’re only 35% done! 4 1/2 hours remaining! (According to the notice on screen)

Hmmm, by my calculation if 20 tracks take 7 hours 200 tracks will take 70 hours which becomes a bit of a nonsense.

What am I doing wrong and what have Microsoft done to the .wma files to stop me changing them to mp3’s?

97633 2002-11-17 07:26:00 Hi...

Did you downlaod the codecs separately from a link within the dbpowerAmp website ? There is a linked site with several codecs for the the recent version of windows media player www.dbpoweramp.com - It has converted wma to MP3 for me (right click)...though from within my PC's hard drive, but should work from a CD in the drive...

97634 2002-11-18 23:01:00 Yes Kahawai I think I have all the required codecs???????

In fact, I think I must now have every god-damn music player/converter ever produced .

However, we still seem to have one small problem, which is as follows .

DBpowerAmp thinks the wma files created by Media Player 7 . 1 are protected! It even tells me so, and I guess this may have something to do with the Licensing that MP 7 . 1 does .

I’m afraid I haven’t yet got a handle on what goes on here . I know I copied a file from one computer to another and MP 7 . 1 insisted on going on line to update the license??

Can anyone explain what is happening here?

As a matter of interest, I saw in another thread where I think it was Terry Porritt used UltraPlayer so I thought I would give that a go . Well, for the records UltraPlayer doesn’t appear to have any hang-ups with MP 7 . 1 produced wma files . Looking at my Music Folder it has hopped straight in, changed all the icons and claimed the files as it’s!

Bravo, I’m not sure yet if this is good or bad . I guess the bottom line is it’s playing them and not hanging up the whole system .

To think everything kicked off so well before turning to custard . :D
