97555 2002-11-10 08:04:00 OK, I've RTFM and I must need help in plainer English ;)

I have this multi-boot situation

Win98SE having the basic programs on that my wife needs for work.

To ensure the first OS doesn't get mucked up with either my fiddling, or the kids games, the second O/S is also Win98SE

I have a separate partition for data etc and spare space for linux.

I use XOSL as a boot loader (as it has the ability to hide each Win98SE O/S from the other)

This system works well.

A while ago I loaded RedHat 8.0 into my spare space (it automatically set up 3 partitions - a boot one?, root and swap). Because I wasn't sure about it at that stage, I opted to boot into this from floppy and didn't load LILO or Grub.

Now, as I'm so impressed with redhat 8.0, I want to load linux using XOSL also. I assume I can load (say) LILO to the small linux partition (hda6 from memory) and get XOSL to 'boot' to LILO which would then do the proper boot.

If this is correct, how do I get LILO to install onto this partition (I'm pretty sure I can get XOSL to access it OK).

Also, as an aside, I have used 'up2date' to update the kernel already. I notice in lilo.conf that I now have more than one option mentioned. Is it correct that I should now be booting to the newer one? I'm pretty sure that using the floppy, I'm still booting to the original.

97556 2002-11-10 08:14:00 If you install LILO to the master boot record the first line would read "boot=/dev/hda" I think you just replace this with your partition e.g. "boot=dev/hda6" and write with /sbin/lilo. JohnD (509)
