| 1296175 | 2012-08-22 01:22:00 | While I'm home dad is getting me to help sort him a new phone (his was on the CDMA network). He's been into the telecom store and also called their help centre but ended up getting shitty when they couldn't help him with exactly what he wanted. So I've done some research and we've almost decided on a Samsung S5511T which Telecom have for $199 ($179 at The Warehouse though) and he is looking for a plan (postpaid or prepaid with 50-100 calling minutes and 100 or so texts. I've found that the Skinny Loose Lips $4 weekly combo would probably fit best, I could set him up an auto-topup and renewal each week and he would get 40min and 100 texts to any network. I've rung telecom and vodafone too and none of their plans really work out as good value even with the upgrade offers ($30 phone discount on telecom and $25 account credit on vodafone etc etc). Are there any hidden deals or plans floating around out there that would work out better than the Skinny option? |

| 1296177 | 2012-08-22 01:40:00 | Personally I'd avoid the telecom store like the plague. Choose a phone (anything that supports telecom's 850Mhz WCDMA is fine) and then use pricespy or your own deal searching to find a good price. Telecom provide an overpriced and limited range. Other than a free SIM in some cases or a good $0 upfront plan there is absolutely nothing to gain from buying telecom. | The Error Guy (14052) | ||

| 1296179 | 2012-08-22 02:04:00 | 2 Degrees has $29/mo for 60mins + 100 bonus mins and 2500 text and 50MB. Unused mins/text/data gets carried over for a 12 month period I think. www.2degreesmobile.co.nz Also if you sign up for a 12 or 24 month term, you get $45 or $69 discount on the handset www.2degreesmobile.co.nz If you get the $39/mo plan that has 120mins + 100 bonus, 2500 text, 100MB AND for the next two years you get also 1GB of mobile data every month, you can have shared data so if you are on 2D as well yo could use that too ... I think. Edit - you are in Timaru. Not too sure if the 1GB bonus data are in the BB zone or not. I know the 50MB or 100MB is national so Timaru gets that roaming off Vodafone. |

I think. Vodafone + 2degrees has really poor coverage around the Geniti area here so they would have to have an exceptional deal for him to consider that. I think that Vodafone looked at putting something on top of one of the churches up there but the neighbours apparently kicked up a stink and nothing came of it so coverage is still poor. |

And for everyone who's going to tell me that there are better offers through 2D or skinny....when you only have Vodafone and Telecom networks to choose from, and Vodafone's is hopeless, offers like this are very handy... :p |
