1320285 2013-01-08 05:09:00 Would be nice to get an email to say "hey we updated our plans, you can save $/get better data by switching!"

Why would they want to do that? They get more money keeping you on the old plan...

1320286 2013-01-08 12:24:00 Orcon (for me) have been nothing short of perfect. It seems if they know what's going on and understand the problem everything is fine and they'll work towards a solution/call the right guys etc... get the ball rolling basically.
They used to be like that for everybody, up until 6-ish months ago, then things started turning to custard pretty damn quickly...

They're merging with Kordia and even the Kordia staff don't want to be associated with the Orcon staff / network, it's had such a horrible rep lately :p

1320287 2013-01-08 12:28:00 This is my last communication with Orcon.

It seems we have identified an issue with our international handover link which is affecting speeds/latency to overseas connections/servers.

1320288 2013-01-08 18:59:00 Well, I had Internet for 10 minutes yesterday.

On a positive note with my dealing with Chorus, that once Chorus gets involved, you do get a feeling you're dealing with real techies. They also seem to take time / cost seriously.

So a Chorus tech showed up yesterday for an hour, and used the speaker phone extensively. I gleaned this much:

Chorus replaced the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and something in the on-road cabinet(called something like a "Simple Fiber something"), and tested it. It was 16 db at my home, 14 db at the the cabinet.

He talked to Alcatel extensively. He made a comment that apparently Alcatel's help desk tech was reading from a manual, and asking him for the meaning of various acronyms.

I heard him talking to her several times, and honestly, I don't know how he coped with her accent. I asked him several times "what did she just say?" and he shrugged.

Apparently Orcon was confused about the number of users on the road-side cabinet. Orcon was saying 4 customers affected, but there were only only two connection in the cabinet. The Chorus tech said the other customer(s) hadn't complained, which seem to contradict Orcon.

He had a long discussion about how to charge his time, and seemed very concerned with a "3 pm commit."

He tried resetting the ONT and Orcon's black "Busy Box". For 10 minutes the Internet light came on, and even after several resets never returned.

To his benefit he did give me his name and number.

Orcon did ring me at 7 pm, and left a message saying they were still looking into it.

1320289 2013-01-08 19:58:00 So slowly you are getting somewhere, I really hope that they do reimburse you or something for this down time. nedkelly (9059)
1320290 2013-01-08 20:09:00 There's very little chance you'll get reimbursed, even if you were to take it to TDR, but if you have the time / effort to expend then go for it.

As for them giving out your number, they do that all the time (I know, I had over 50 tech visits over the space of 6 months for an issue I had) and never return your call. They'll occasionally pick up but just advise you they can't help unless they have a "job" assigned to them. Once he leaves your place, there's little chance he's going to be back unless you get your ISP to put through another job to Chorus.

Pessimistic of me? Probably, but over 50 Chorus visits in 6 months for a single job will do that to ya ;)

1320291 2013-01-13 18:57:00 Still down, from 24 Dec to 14 Jan.

At least I'm getting twice daily calls from Orcon's assurance team.

For the second weekend, Chorus was supposed to show up, but didn't. Why are they scheduling Chorus on weekends is beyond me.

1320292 2013-01-13 20:44:00 So, now it's Chorus who are the bad guys. Gee, I hope my connection stays good.

Keep us posted.

1320293 2013-01-13 22:03:00 What a cluster****. Agent_24 (57)
1320294 2013-01-13 22:13:00 Chorus usually work on the weekends, even Sundays, late hours, the works... I was getting calls twice daily, but they gave up calling me after a while.

Please tell me you've at least lodged it with the TDR, even if you never do anything further with it?
