1320275 2013-01-04 02:49:00 Yeah exactly. Usually even just mentioning to your ISP that you're lodging it with TDR is enough for them to not bother, at least in pretty clear-cut cases like this. It's just not worth the hassle for them. Chilling_Silence (9)
1320276 2013-01-06 19:20:00 Another broken promise from Orcon support. That's number 5.

I was told they would be be a support person on site 11 am Saturday. I asked the support person to repeat it: "That's a Saturday. Are you sure?"

That's 14 days without phone or Internet.

1320277 2013-01-06 19:22:00 Have you lodged a formal complaint via their website and rang the TDRs 0800 number ? Chilling_Silence (9)
1320278 2013-01-07 19:04:00 Thanks chilling silence. I called the 800 number, and they told me to use the "dispute resolution" button on the Orcon website, which I did.

Now I'm being jerked around by Chorus. I got a call regarding my complaint from a Chorus tech at 2 pm asking if I was home, because they were making a site visit. I told them "no" but I could go home in 15 minutes.

So I leave work early, and wait... and wait...

At 4:15 I get a call from Auckland Orcon asking if my Internet was working. I tell them nothing has changed, and the Chorus tech never called me.

Upon further inquiries, Orcon seemed clueless as to what Chorus had done, or was doing.

When I told them this was costing me money, to use my iPhone 3G connection, he suggested I switch to a cheaper iPhone data plan!

I told him I usually leave my iPhone 3G turned off, because I never anticipated being so long without an Internet connection.

I had heard in other forums that Orcon would try to blame the victim, and I experienced it firsthand.

I'm being told again that it will be tomorrow when I get my Internet connection back... sigh...

1320279 2013-01-07 22:38:00 Yeah personally I'm *so* over Orcon at the moment, stupid things like that, it's just not on really... Ditch them and go to somebody else in your area. Chilling_Silence (9)
1320280 2013-01-08 00:50:00 Pathetic.

I don't know if they'll pay your 3G charges (they probably should) but they shouldn't even think of charging a termination fee if you decide to switch ISPs, with useless 'service' like that.

In the past I have been given free dialup when my ADSL was not working, though that is Telecom not Orcon.

Who, in Orcon? Cameron knows of this from the Geekzone forum. Maybe the CEO needs to know what goes on (or doesn't go on) in his company.

To be messed around by Orcon and then by Chorus is just too much. My fingers are all crossed as I am on the same setup as the OP.

Best of luck, dragonfly. You certainly should be compensated for the expense and pp service.

1320284 2013-01-08 02:04:00 Orcon (for me) have been nothing short of perfect. It seems if they know what's going on and understand the problem everything is fine and they'll work towards a solution/call the right guys etc... get the ball rolling basically.

If, however, they don't actually know or understand your issue. You're f****** to put it lightly. You get ignored, taken in circles etc etc, its no ones fault and no one cares. I haven't experienced a bad thing with them yet however nothing has gone seriously wrong. There have been email issues (added to blacklists), an initial problem with our ADSL setup 4-5 years ago and a problem porting our telecom number to Orcon when we made the fibre switch but they are all "fixable" problems that happen. They can and will deal with them.

Best of luck to anyone who doesn't get a solution however for the most part orcon seem fine.

The reason I say this is sadly, people only hear the bad things about a company. No one makes a post about the great general service. Although it would seem that the Orcs at Orcon need a sharp kick up the ass to straighten them out I have usually found them to be providers of quality service.

Actually, one gripe is they never tell you about better/newer plans that would be more cost effective (this was on ADSL) probably every year or so I'd end up on their site to see an upgraded plan that was more cost effective than our current one, whilst the one we were on had been had been made obsolete (couldn't even buy it any more) They'd be great over the phone switching it but you had to make the effort to initiate the process. Would be nice to get an email to say "hey we updated our plans, you can save $/get better data by switching!"
