1296373 2012-08-24 23:17:00 uh...whats the matter with a gap between the rich and the poor?

People should put their efforts into providing for themselves and their families rather then what other people have.

The answer is hard work. And PRIDE. It starts in the home, not in cash from the government or race based policy.

The question is not about those who are better off.

Yeah I agree with somebody, well said!

Wait isn't that the whole *idea* here? Getting people off the benefit and in to work? With the whole argument being that this should increase their income?

1296376 2012-08-25 01:12:00 I would like to see some sort of tax rate which takes into account your assets

For example: if you are earning 55K a year and own one home - sweet... pay the current tax rate
If you own 2 homes, you get to pay 5% more
..and so on

Would provide more homes on the market for first home buyers, would also slow the escalating rate of house prices; while also making the rich who are able to "house farm" pay more

Its stupid how someone earning 55K who owns 2 or 3 houses and is using them to buy more pays the same rate as someone earning the same and supporting his wife and kids and trying to get out of renting

1296377 2012-08-25 01:54:00 whats stupid is kids driving 25k cars and then complaining (usually once the car is long gone) that the suits have made it so they can't afford a house.

Perhaps saving for a deposit is a better plan then paying off an attention seeking ****** wagon.

They wouldn't be earning 55k a year in that case, they'd be earning more from rental profits, and thus be paying more tax. They would likely be in the top tax bracket too, thus paying a higher rate on their extra income that the man supporting his wife and kids trying to get out of renting.

1296379 2012-08-25 02:00:00 rental profits?

lmfao.

If you can make a profit its done when the asset is sold, the rent covers the payment on the asset not so much profit.

Just renting out our house, Me thinks we will have to put some of our income into her as well.

1296380 2012-08-25 02:11:00 Yes, the hyper-inflated values, of our mostly second rate, housing stock in this country,
when compared to the returns from rent, make a case for investing in other directions.
I feel a large correction is still around the corner, either rents will have to increase massively, or house values need to halve.
Hard to imagine either happening, but that's what the maths suggest IMO.
Perhaps we could still become a state of the Australian Federation...at least the pay is better.
