| 1296398 | 2012-08-24 00:22:00 | No, read this one: www.stuff.co.nz This is why........ water and sewage treatment operators, flown in from the United States by council managers to cover staff who spurned a massive pay cut, are costing up to $5800 a week. City infrastructure general manager Chris Allen last week confirmed that council had paid almost $20,000 for their flights and immigration costs. each are paid between $100 and $120 per hour, another $140 per day for living costs, and are given the private use of city vehicles during their stay. Their contract and allowance rates for 40-hour weeks equate to salaries of up to $300,000, compared with starting rates of $56,000 for existing technicians. Previously the six technician roles had a recruiting range from $56,000 to $62,000, with extensive overtime and callouts adding up to $12,000 a year. The new "operator" roles, which Mr Allen said held less responsibility, have a recruiting range of $43,000-$48,000, and a lump sum $7500 for overtime. |

| 1296400 | 2012-08-24 00:56:00 | And that is happening across the country pctek ... Dunedin City Council have just admitted they paid 30 odd million in consultancy fees because the people they did have were laid off to "save" the city money. KD .. "No one with a student loan should be permitted out of the country until it is fully repaid." Nice idea, but if you had the option of earning 30k a year here and 60k + perks a year in Oz, what would you do? And the other problem is that there are no jobs for the graduates here in NZ ... I believe John Key will sell NZ to Oz if he's re-elected for another term ... either that or (and don't let this slip out, all hush-hush at the moment) our graduates are effectively taking Oz over by stealth to get the wealth ... :D |
