1295496 2012-08-19 22:47:00 @The Error Guy. Yes, the lens fully extends. Zoom also works fine, the lens zooms in and out like normal.
@Lawrence. I'll post a photo that I took with it.

1295497 2012-08-20 21:58:00 I had a Sony that did everything else right but when you took a picture the photo was just black. Took it into Sony who had a look at it and replaced the CCD and have never had a problem with it since. Although it cost nothing - as it turned out that model had a fault with some of them and they replaced it under warranty (even though it was 4 yrs old) I remember seeing their invoice for around $90, not that much I thought at the time.
So going from my own experience, I'm going to go with what has already been said, the CCD is buggered.

1295498 2012-08-20 22:09:00 Ok, I'll take a chance the CCD is buggered. If my uncle had the receipt, is it worth taking it in? Given that a cheap point and shoot can be had for around $100 these days. Nick G (16709)
1295499 2012-08-20 22:35:00 Given that it's 5-7 years old, I doubt whether it's worth repairing (or even that there are parts available for a repair). As you say, there are lots of models available today (probably with better specs) for pretty cheap... In fact most current smartphoines probably have a better spec than the Powershot A610!! johcar (6283)
1295500 2012-08-20 22:36:00 Ok, I'll pass the info on.
:thanks:

Well, just as a last though, here is a photo taken. All photos look like this. Also, in 'auto' mode, (flash is set to auto) it always goes off, even in very well lit conditions where my camera's flash doesn't (again, flash set to auto).

Any ideas about why the flash always goes off?

1295502 2012-08-21 00:21:00 I don't really use auto :p But maybe it uses flash b/c it thinks you are taking pictures of people or normal things for what they call "fill light" if people or items are are in a shadow ie., panda eyes, the flash will "fill" up the shadows giving you are more pleasing shot. 1295503 2012-08-21 00:26:00 Imported it into LR and upped all the settings, attached beneath, I think it is the sensor.
I had a issue with a SLR that was the issue with the mechanical aperture "arm" not opening and closing correctly but if you say you up the ISO and slowed the shutter speed you should get at least a dark image.
In LR after upping the settings, I could see nothing being recorded.

Tried the obvious?
Tried a manual forced reset with a lil' pin normally at the bottom of the camera? Tried a diff memory card?

That looks quite cool as a desktop background!!

Yes, the CCD sensor is telling the flash managment system that it is pitch black outside.

Further confirmation that it is buggered. :groan:
