2012-08-22 03:46:00 | Hi Team I want to find out the weather conditions in Auckland for one particular day in each year between 2007 and 2012 inclusive, but all are different dates and are spread out over three non-contiguous months, i.e 17-7-07, 18-7-08, 28-04-09, 10-2-10, 9-2-11, 7-2-12. I thought that this would be no sweat, just look up the Herald archives, or whichever arm of the Government handles weather matters, but after a frustrating hour or so on line, I've drawn a blank on both counts. I don't need to be too precise, just whether it started out wet or fine. This outcome usually means that there is an elephant in the room but I can't see it for looking. I also thought that the Airport had some online records too, but I can't see them either. I know that the information is available somewhere, probably at the local library, or on the web at a price, but I was hoping it was online and free. It is not make or break stuff, or I'd be off at the Library now, but it would be helpful to know. Any ideas? Cheers Billy 8-{)

2012-08-22 04:34:00 | Sorry I can't be of much help Billy but can I ask - Why? It is in relation to some work I did, for which weather is a potential time factor. I failed to record it at the time and I'm just trying to get a specific record up to date. It is a very rare need, weather doesn't play much of a part in my work. I have since found another raft of archives, but none that drill down to the dates or locations I want with any kind of detail. I have found the Auckland Airport figures now though, which are give good general indication over each day, so the present order for the six days is D,W,W,D,D,?. Mangere being on the West Coast, which is much wetter than where I am on the East Coast, it is more likely precipitation here would be lower that they recorded. So, I have half an answer, which is better than no answer at all, and is probably enough to go on with, but I think I'll go look in our local Library sometime. Cheers Billy 8-{)

Have to add,it won't give you the (cloudy with a few showers etc in written form) but if you can look at it and say it would have been wet or dry |

2012-08-22 07:58:00 | Try this Google Search (www.google.co.nz 4095.4-5j3.8.0...0.0...1c.4QiFHoTBb24&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&fp=d32c91d5da33591b&biw=1024&bih=513) for specific NZ Academic research institutes which will pull up NZ libraries, Universities, etc, which have data sets, and links to online resources; e.g. this site (homepages.paradise.net.nz) for various cities, with some historical data. May need a bit of navigating about. | kahawai chaser (3545) | |

2012-08-22 10:17:00 | NZ Met service has all that in their archives. I used that a few years ago while researching weather data for the day the DC3 that crashed in the Kaimais. They were able to give me data for Whenuapai and Hamilton plus the upper air data they had. Except, the data was not on any accessible database, I had to request it. You should be able to get it with no problems. | WalOne (4202) | |
