98085 2002-11-12 09:37:00 I have Windows XP Home dual booted with ME and Linux
The problem is that Standby works well with ME & Linux but not with XP.

The Standby button is greyed out in XP & it overides the Bios.

I have :
1) Upgraded the Bios.
2) Installed XP SP1
3) Tried all possible Bios & Power settings.

I can get it to standby for about 5 seconds by pressing the off switch which is set for standby, but it always comes on again.

Can anyone help? Microsoft are as much help as tits on a Bull on this matter.
I don't like switching it off every time and the continual humming bugs me!

98086 2002-11-12 10:05:00 I'm pretty sure this only happens if WinXP believes your system doesn't support either ACPI or APM .

WinXP is pickier about enabling APM support than Win ME .

Unless WinXP finds your system on a list of know-to-be-good APM implementations, it won't enable APM even if your system has it .

You may be able to over-ride this by enabling APM using the instructions found in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article Q313290 .

98087 2002-11-12 10:26:00 If ACPI wasn't available or enabled in the bios when you loaded XP, I don't think XP will 'pick up on it' afterwards. If you have provided an 'XP compatible bios' after the fact, you may have to re-install XP. wuppo (41)
