2002-11-12 01:24:00 | I have received an OE email with a graphic attachment having the extension .pps . whenever I receive graphic attachments they open by default into ULead Photo Express. but this time Ulead gives me message telling me it can't open this particular graphic with the unusual extension. I've tried changing the extension to jpg for example but still no joy. A friend of mine got the identical email and she was able to open the attachment directly from the email with no problems and she is running W95 with no marvellous graphic software. How ? I wish I knew. Firstly what is the extension 'pps ? I've never come across it before. Secondly I have several not very good graphic programmes but one Irfan View seems to be able to accommodate a greater range of file extensions and might allow me to open this attachment. However can anyone tell me how to configure my PC [ W98SE] so that I can choose whichever graphic programme I have to open and save an attachment to rather than have Ulead automatically capture and open it without giving me an option.

2002-11-12 01:40:00 | The viewer only is downloadable from Microsoft. The full program is included with M/S office 97, and if you have the cd for this, use the add/remove option to install it. Bye

To change your associated file types to programs, go into explorer and choose Tools > File Options. There you can assign the file types to any program reasonably quickly and easily. |

2002-11-12 01:44:00 | (I gotta think before I post). If you want to open an attachment with any program, download the attachment to your local drive or desktop. Right click on the file, and choose "Open With" and "Choose Program". | honeylaser (814) | |
2002-11-12 02:37:00 | Thanks a lot honeylaser for the webpage- now one of my Favourites- and you're right - it is Powerpoint. Thanks too for the tip to allow me other options for opening a graphic into another application. Thanks too Peter H. I have the Office disk but never bothered installing the Powerpoint programme. Perhaps I will now Cheers willbry :)

2002-11-12 03:08:00 | Hi honeylaser. I tried downloading an attachment to desktop, R Clicked and the drop down menu presented me with : Open-Print - Add to Zip- Scan-Send to- Cut- Copy - Delete -Rename and Props . L or R clicking Open merely opens the file with the same programme . I cant get any option to open it with an alternative application. Could you help me a bit more on that one. Thanks willbry | willbry (1555) | |
2002-11-12 03:45:00 | In widows explorer, go to folder where the pic is. LEFT click on the file to hilite it - Hold down SHIFT & right click - should now give an option to "Open with" Select the prog you want. If it's OK, then Check "Always use this program" - normall I leave this un-ticked untill I'm sure. Bye
