97775 2002-11-11 06:03:00 2 problems:

a. After an interrupted download of XP updates from MS my computer locked up. I managed to restore operations by re-installing XP but my computer will no longer go through the automatic shutdown and switch off but gives the earlier ït is now safe to shut down your computer message". How do I restore the auto shut down programme?

b. After downloading MS SP1 the system does not recognise Google and has become sluggish. I have presently reverted to pre download conditions
Help please.

How do you mean it does not recognise Google? And you say you downloaded SP1 - did you install it, or just download it?

I believe that there is a patch available from Microsoft - I'll do a search there and see if I can find anything, otherwise someone else here may be able to answer your query .

If you look in control panel/Performance and Maintenance/Power Options you will see an APM tab, is there a tick in the box? If not, please put a tick in it and maybe?:| this will cure your problem.

For the sluggish part, try a defrag. May help? Never hurts. As for the system not recognising google, it is html code. IE6 is built to utilise html code, so don't know why this is happening?:|

Where did you get the Shutdown patch for XP from? I did a general search of Microsoft.com but it wouldn't give me anything but patches for 98.

Im not sure if its still there as it took some digging to find it
