| 98163 | 2002-11-13 19:36:00 | I have heard that it is only people that do an upgrade from 98 or 95 that have problems, not those that have done a full install. | Danger (287) | ||
| 98164 | 2002-11-13 19:44:00 | Everyone has an opinion based on their own experiences. Voicing that opinion is one thing, but trying to shove it down the throats of others and ridiculing their own preferences is something else. Its downright rude and unfriendly. I am half expecting Bruce to come along with his iron-wear and lock this thread off. | cappuccino (1800) | ||

My better½s machine is a full install.. it's stability against the odds was noted in a previous post on this thread >I am half expecting Bruce to come along with his iron-wear and lock this thread off. I hope not, amoungst the annoyance we are starting to see an interesting debate! .Clueless |

| 98166 | 2002-11-13 20:11:00 | I had one machine which was an upgrade from 98SE, and 2 that had fresh installs (it was the supplied OS) Ram was 64 to 128, processor speeds were 600 and 667 I never saw any problems on the upgrade, compared to the new installs. It was certainly quick. Shutdown was between 6 and 8 seconds, the fastest of any recent OS. With all 9x series of OS I always rebooted a couple of times a day, when using it constantly. Since moving to XP that is unecessary. |

| 98168 | 2002-11-14 02:18:00 | After using ME from Oct 2001 till Sept 2002 and having countless formats, I can say that the OS was not the greatest. But I will not trash it completely as I was using it pretty harshly. Between the games and the Programming Languages being installed, it had a hard time. ME is not the stablest of OS's, but windows *.* is not the stablest of OS's. For a home computing perspective, which is what ME was packaged for, it is(was) an ideal solution to get people using computers. If that person was going to start making a network, install heavy programs, generally run a computer to its limit, then an upgrade is essential. We all know that Microsoft is not the most ideal software maker, but thanks to promoting the product's correctly, Bill Gates owns everybody. If apple could have spent more time marketing back in the '80's, then we might have all been using Imac's today - but would they have been as good? It is hard not to buy into Microsoft's ability to be #1 as they buy out most of the competition - no need to compete. If Linux could get a little more support from PC manufacturers(or assemblers as some would say:)), then we could all have a stable OS for once. When I say stable, I mean its security features, its file sharing, its process management, its memory management, its storage management, and its overall ability to multitask. I do actually use winXP and find it is reasonably stable, but it can't do half of these things mentioned above to a satisfactory level. But that is enough ranting for me know, time to do some work Rads:) |

I see in Dick Smiths latest mailer that they are promoting a computer brand that comes with a Linux OS installed......... |

| 98171 | 2002-11-14 04:11:00 | More likely IBM. They take Linux seriously. | Graham L (2) | ||
