97800 2002-11-11 08:22:00 Does anyone have any recommendations for cheap ink cartridges? Not interested in refills (fairly certain that it was a leaking refill killed my last printer. Once bitten...)

Current printer is a Canon S300 and I've found a range of prices from $13.25 (ex GST) to $19.51 (ex GST)

97801 2002-11-11 11:07:00 I tentatively bought 2 x black and 2 x colour for my epsom C20ux via ebay. Can't remember exact costs per cartridge but it worked out that all up costs was $40NZ for the lot (includes postage).
They are obviously not the genuine article but compared to paying $36 just for one I gave it a try. The quality is not as good but most of the printing done in my house is by my two kids (4yr + 2yr) and all they do is print off Barney colouring pictures and the like.

Black compatable $10.62+ Colour compat $17.73+
Dick Smiths Black $17.60 inc Colour $45.00 inc. I have read a review - in PC User Aust I think - or PC Authority - who tested compatable Carts in the S300, and gave them good marks. Last months issue, but my copies are with a friend at the moment so can't be more specific.

97803 2002-11-12 03:41:00 Try NZ Shareware (http://www.inkjet.co.nz/) in Christcurch. Even with $3 postage, their prices are pretty good. People I know have been happy with their refills. They don't list s300 , but try an email. Graham L (2)
97804 2002-11-12 09:20:00 Thanks people,

I had found the consumables people - in fact my boss ordered some ink for his HP printer from them today.

Refills are NOT an option! New printer, demise of last one probably caused by the leaking one. A recommendation for those who use them - buy from a local store rather than nationally. If you then have a leak you can take the printer in, dump it on their counter and demand a clean up and a replacement. Much harder when the supplier is at the far end of the country. Falls heavily into the too hard basket.

I hadn't thought of e-bay and will investigate it.

Went through 2 cartridges in 3 weeks - mind you, there was a lot happening in those 3 weeks - thus the hunt for the best price.

97805 2002-11-12 20:00:00 About the only fault with the S300 - those ink cartidges are small. Glad you had success.

97806 2002-11-14 01:14:00 I've always found Corporate Consumables http://www.corpcons.co.nz to be competitively priced, (infact my local PC store buys them from there).

Cheers

97807 2002-11-14 03:26:00 Thanks Liam,

Had a look - with GST and freight one black comes to $24.40. Without the freight - $19.01.

Noel Lemmings are $17.99 (incl GST) and there is an accessible land based store with only a slight detour off my normal route.

It's an interesting exercise pricing ink. Places you think would be most expensive aren't and vice versa.

My boss was looking for HP ink the other day. The website he normally orders from was down so, as I'd started my research a couple of days earlier, I pointed him to one or two other sites. He came up with a $5/cartridge saving on his normal cost. Before ordering he shot into Warehouse Stationers to do a comparison and found them more expensive than the web.

I'm still interested in other sites for my list if anyone has any other suggestions.

97808 2002-11-14 07:49:00 Try Computer Food at 212 King Street, Pukekohe. Telephone 09-238-2146 Bryan D (895)
97809 2002-11-14 07:55:00 Bryan,

Computer Food also go by the name of http://consumables.co.nz
I actually remembered computerfood as the link from a purchase I made way back. The boss found them cheaper than the others and bought from them. For my printer they are a bit more expensive - unless I go for the compatible ones when they are the cheapest.
