98344 2002-11-13 08:47:00 Anyone tried it? It is a multi platform open source flight sim. I have just got it going on my Linux box albeit very slowly (non accelerated I think). I was on the Oct 2002 Linux Format cd/dvd. Dolby Digital (160)
98345 2002-11-16 05:23:00 Hi Dolby

I am interested to hear about this flight sim. Incidentally DD, I have put Mandrake 9 on my system - it was a painful experience but I got there in the end....

98346 2002-11-17 05:14:00 What sort of problems did you have?

Are you pleased with the result though...

Did you buy the Nov APC mag with it on?

98347 2002-11-17 05:22:00 Forgot to mention about Flight Gear. It looks good from the pictures on the website www.flightgear.org; unfortunately until I get the "accelerated" version going I can't enjoy it. I have a nVidia TNT2 M64 (32MB ram) AGP card which should be ok for it although my Pentium III 450 is probably just ok for reasonable performance.

If you like challenges, its the way to go ;)

What sort of video card do you have?

Cheers

98348 2002-11-18 02:13:00 DD - I have a Leadtek GeForrce 4 Ti4200 128 MB DDR .

Problems I had were a couple of reading from CD msgs (I noticed I had left a big dirty fingerrint on it) . However the difficulty I had was more in the realm of getting Windows XPee and Linux to do a dual boot .

I originally had Windows XPee on D drive NTFS, and installed Mandrake on what was my C drive . However I could not set up LILO to boot XPee .

So I reformatted partitions and put Xpee on C with FAT32 . But then I used Partition Magic to create some partitions ready for Linux, but when I started Linux I got to the disk partitioning stage and some weird stuff happened (sorry can't remember the msgs) .

So I removed the partitions I created for Linux and then set the Linux install option to 'Use the existing Windows Partition' and that seemed to work fine . However once I got Linux up and running I played with some of the graphics card settings and could only boot into Command Line (or something) . So bsck to square one . . .

Anyhow have finally got it working . Unfortunately I have a Win Modem so I got a few probs with that . But I see in another post there is a link for Win modem drivers for Linux for my type of modem so I will give that a go .

98349 2002-11-18 02:17:00 Oh yes, I am intrigued by what I see so far. However I have a lot to learn about Linux. I do like the fact that with the 2 disc version (and yes I did get that from the APC mag) you can install most (if not all) the software you need on the initial install - makes things a lot faster.

Sadly Linux is lacking in the games dept so XPee will be staying on my system for quite a while tho.
