98477 2002-11-14 04:17:00 Hi there. I was using Windows Media Player 9 before, but now use Winamp 3 because of the Ogg Vorbis support. I notice that it takes a long time to load when I click on the icon (10 - 15 secs). When I look under Processes (Alt+Ctrl+Del) Winamp often uses up more memory than explorer. Is this normal? If not, how can I fix it? Thanks in advance. flyer590 (2523)
98478 2002-11-14 05:16:00 I prefer Winamp 2.8 myself. It's lighter and I believe it has ogg support (if not there are plugins available). antmannz (28)
98479 2002-11-14 09:08:00 i've heard quite a bit against Winamp 3 so maybe it would be a good idea to wait till the "fixed" version comes out. dave e (474)
98480 2002-11-14 09:48:00 It took me a while before I jumped the fence to Winamp 3, sure it does require more resources, but I've still got 253,780kB of physical RAM left to go before I need the swapfile. So it's not really all that much problem.

The main thing I like about it is the free form skins, I use MMD3 which is really small and i ahve it stay on top of all other windows and takes up no more room than the title bar does. It's really nice.

If you're low on resources then yes go for 2.81.

98481 2002-11-14 20:02:00 I've got 256MB of RAM so I'll probably just stay with Winamp 3 for now. I use MMD3 as well and I noticed it didn't make any difference with or without it. flyer590 (2523)
98482 2002-11-14 21:38:00 Mmm... Love that MMD3 Skin, all the themes... :)

Yes, you're right that it does go a lot slower than Winamp 2.81, and you'll need a whole lot more proccessing power. I dont mind though, it'll run on 128MB RAM in Win2K Pro fine!
There is OGG support in 2.81, Im sure there is! get the Full download though.
If you dont like WinAmp3, dont use it. If you do, welcome to the club! :p
