I thought a partician and both OS might have worked. Oh well, silly me.

It amazes me that a 11 year old kid would need anything other than a basic computer. Especially when the budget is $1200.

Come on Ray......... Children can be as picky as their Parents are rich. I prefer to teach mine that its not necessary to have the very latest, flashest, fastest of everything.

99045 2002-11-17 07:24:00 If games are the mainstay, why not just buy a Playstation.

I think kids get more pleasure from a computer than just playing games. Well mine do anyway.

What games my kids do have, work perfectly well on my 2 year old computer. Or am I missing something?

99048 2002-11-17 07:55:00 Try www.dragonpc.co.nz or www.hotchips.co.nz email them and ask them what sort of system they can build for around $1200 should be something along the lines of-
Duron 1.2Ghz 256MB ram Geforce2MX 40GB and a 15"Moniter. With CDrom modem and all the rest probably will not include a CDRW. And a 11 year old doesn't need a CDRW.

99049 2002-11-17 22:06:00 Are these games along the lines of CS, UT2K3, Battlefield 1942 or anything else put out within the last year, coz I know that running StarWars Jedi Knight on my Celeron 933Mhz with 64MB Onboard RAM and 192 Left for conventional, it runs like a DOG! I get about 5-6 FPS at best in Win2K, rebotting into 98 is a little better, but an AGP card should be on the list too (Even a 32MB Card would suffice).

If you're looking for budget, then those PC's from the PC Company mentioned before look fine, comes with everything you'll need.

And kids can want a lot too... My 4 year old sister gets very annoyed when loading Telletubbies takes too long... You just have to make sure its fast enough to keep them from doing damage to the PC or your sanity and you should be fine ;)
