| 99193 | 2002-11-17 07:49:00 | Hello, I had a WD (Western Digital) 20GB harddrive. It can be detected by the computer during the both up. I can access the files and copy them to another harddrive by using the 98 bootup disk and do it under MS-DOS. However, i cannot use fdisk on it and it cannot bootUp and invisible under window98. Does anyone had any idea how to solve this problem? It happened a lot to the WD harddrives. Any comment is appreciated! Thanks! XJ |

It probably has no system files that's why you can't boot from it. Try to reformat it and reinstall Windows. Before doing it, back up whatever data you needed first. What is the history of the disks? It maybe interesting and useful to know the history first before a solution can be established. bk |

| 99195 | 2002-11-17 13:26:00 | hello bk T, Thanks for the reply! Before the harddrive failure, i was installing a game on it . After installation, it requires restart the computer . When the computer restarted, the computer detected the harddrive but then it stoped and come out a massage that write primary hardrive failure . Then the screen show another pages, it said cannot find the system files . I insert the bootup disk(win95), i can get to c: under dos . then i tried fdisk, it told me that there is not fixed disk . A few friends told me that the harddrive is gone but i just wanted to give it a try at here to see whether there is any other solution to get it back . XJ |
