| 99199 | 2002-11-17 07:38:00 | I did an install (upgrade) of Windows XP home edition to fix another problem and, although it fixed my other problem, a newer, more serious one emerged. Everything worked fine except I couldn't connect to the internet and could not add a new connection. The Remote Access Connection Manager (Rasman) would not start (Error 711) and this service is required to add or open a dial-up connection. From what I've read this is a common problem as you can read here: www.annoyances.org The fix detailed in the forum (and I can confirm it worked without side effects) is Run: regedit Select folders in the folllowing order: -HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -SYSTEM -Current Control Set -Services -RasMan -PPP -EAP -when you get to this point, you should see 4 folders (numbered 4, 13, 25, 26) -DELETE: folders 25 and 26 Thanks to Catherine! |
