99335 2002-11-18 03:51:00 What's Showbehind.exe
My PC started really slowing up, and then I noticed that in Task Manager than showbehind.exe was using a lot of RAM, over 14 Megs. I've never heard of it before, but I can remember a pop appearing say something in the blue bar along the top about showbehind.
What is it? Why was it running, and how would I stop it if I dont need it?!

99336 2002-11-18 04:08:00 Its adware I think, you could *try* going the their home page, they have a link to an uninstall program

Get it here (http://www.showbehind.com)

99337 2002-11-18 07:32:00 WTF - I never downloaded anything of theirs? It was a site using something as a popup?! Chilling_Silence (9)
99338 2002-11-18 07:40:00 Are you really telling us you have never loaded any shareware/freeware on your PC?

Thats where it will have come from, a parasitic element of a program you have probably deleted.

99339 2002-11-18 20:47:00 Not on this one... I've since installed the latest build of Ad-Aware, and it came up with a few cookies, and one registry key Alexia or something. no reference to showbehind. Guess I'll goto the site and use the un-installer there.
Thanks for your help :)

99340 2002-11-18 23:39:00 Okay, Big downer here... I cant get into my PC after restarting from the un-install.
I uninstalled it and carried on, but after having so many windows open, the proccessor wasnt upto having windows themed and skinned and winamp 3 running, so I closed it all and then restarted. Now once I've logged in, it will play the intro music and then just carry on whirring away at nothing! I'm currently in safe mode to see what I can get out of it, I may have to do a rebuild/repair off the install CD... Just what I need right before lunch!

99341 2002-11-19 01:21:00 First just have a check of what programs are starting up using Start->Run->msconfig gibler (49)
99342 2002-11-19 01:36:00 Win2K doesnt have that. I repaired the system using the install disc and it seems to be going alright, so Im happy. Im using Phoenix and that seems to be stopping most popups anyway. Im a real convert for this browser now! Chilling_Silence (9)
