99612 2002-11-19 04:55:00 i just got a new pci usb card for my old comp
the comp is bit more than 5 yrs old
after i put the card in
window 98se can't recognise it properly
there wasn't any driver that came with the card
the rentaler said win98 got it already
but it doesn't
when something is plugged in the blue screen of death comes up

is there any usb pci driver out there that might work?

99613 2002-11-19 06:27:00 What are the specs of your computer?

Just because Win98 can handle USB, it doesn't mean it'll notice a PCI card with USB ports - the retailer probably was thinking about the fact that Win98 is USB capable, not that there'd be a driver there for Win98 to use.

Maybe try device manager to navigate to driver update for the PCI card via the internet...

99615 2002-11-19 09:17:00 there is also a patch for 98 for the usb buried in MS's site. i can't remember the addy but a search through MS should find it. i had problems with USB devices not working with win98se and the patch fixed it. tweak'e (174)
99616 2002-11-19 19:07:00 This is the MS site for a USB patch for AMD cpu and Via chips when running Win98SE, (if you have that combination)

support.microsoft.com

If you know your motherboard, go to their site and see if they have a USB patch for it.

99617 2002-11-20 03:11:00 The card should came with a driver CD or Floppy. If the retailer said 98SE should have it then take yr PC to them and tell them 98SE doesn't have it and what they can do. Otherwise, exchange for another PCI USB card that has a driver or get full refund and get it else where :D SKT174 (1319)
99618 2002-11-20 03:24:00 Every PCI USB card I have seen has never come with a driver CD.
If you are using win98 or later OS it will be automatically installed.
Never had any problems with them.

99619 2002-11-20 03:27:00 not always. a lot of usb cards don't come with drivers due to windows natively supporting it.

all the ones i've put in have never had drivers. win98 just reconises card and installs it.
